Guest guest
A local omni said that everytime she hears a Veggie campaign she starts her grill and barbecues some meat. I didn't say anything or do anything to annoy her. She said it just like that to someone else. How to respond to this next time it happens ? Thanks in advance. Guest guest
In an indirect way you are right fraggle! World starvation is well connected to meat-eating habits. If Americans stopped feeding grain to cattle, the excess grain could feed 500 million people (not to mention the land that could be used to grow food instead of being used for grazing cattle). When people see those programs on TV about all the starving children, they should consider that their diets are a contributing factor. http://www.cleanse.net/facts_about_meat.HTM fraggle [EBbrewpunx] 19 December 2004 23:55 Re: How to Respond to this ? so, anytime one of those *save the children* commericals come on tv, does she run out and flambe' an orphan as well? rvijay07 Dec 19, 2004 3:12 PM How to Respond to this ? Guest guest
Thanks to all the responses in this regard. I think I will take the health approach first. If this doesn't work, let us say she says something like - My family has always eaten meat and everyone has lived long without health problems, then I may have to think of other responses. Regards, Vijay
Guest guest
A flying saucer said that? seriously, I read somewhere,(anton chevkov) said that when you don't know what to say, just stay simple. Something like,... I wouldn't. And then I would've walked away and left her thinking. because, sometimes people are looking for long explanations, not to learn from you, but to argue back to you. -anouk , rvijay07@m... wrote: > > A local omni said that everytime she hears a Veggie campaign she starts her grill and barbecues some meat. Guest guest
Hi Andrew, Do you happen to have any good links on bowel cancer? My BiL has just been diagnosed so I'm trying to nudge him towards a vegan diet - but I'll have to do it gently, or he'll rebel. Needless to say the consultants etc haven't mentioned a vegan diet... If you've no links to hand, I'll Google it. Guest guest
A quick look on google brings up some good stuff. No idea who did original research! It makes sense if you explain it to meatheads with this version. Paragraph two. I explain it to stupid meat eaters by drawing comparisons with smoking: Yes humans ‘can’ smoke. /however our lungs can only defend against it for a limited time. Humans ‘can’ eat meat. /however our intestines can only try to breakdown (digest) meat therefore meat ends up rotting in your bowels. A well-balanced vegan diet provides all the vitamins and energy required at any stage of life. In fact, it is not just as good as a diet that includes animal products; it is healthier. An increase in fibre and reduction of fat in the diet is important in disease prevention. This has been proven to reduce the incidence of cancer, especially bowel cancer and organ disease, particularly cardiovascular disease. Meat moves through the gastrointestinal system very slowly and in many cases undergoes putrification before leaving the body. This stagnant rotting flesh is high in toxins and these leach into the surrounding cells of the bowel wall. Environmental factors are implicated as causes of the original insult to the body in bowel cancer. These factors include viruses, free radicals causing oxidations and various toxins. Following this damage and under the influence of ongoing environmental stressors cells undergo irreversible changes which results in the condition commonly known as cancer. Together, cancer and cardiovascular disease form the top two killers for humans. http://www.essene.com/Vegetarian/WhyVegan.htm For instance, studies have shown that vegetarians have up to 40% less chance of developing bowel cancer. http://www.vnv.org.au/WhyBeVeggo.htm I dragged these two out from a search “bowel cancer vegan” Good luck trying to educate your doctors! andy Viv Carbines [vc27] 20 December 2004 21:57 RE: How to Respond to this ?
