Guest guest
I listen to satellite radio about 75% of the time I'm at home - Total Rock - for loads of lovely heavy metal! I sometimes listen to Radio 4, specially in the car. Jo > > > Do you listen to the Radio these days ? How do you rank it against TV ? Guest guest
I don't listen to it for news. Here we have a news programme of about 20 minutes and it is just repeated over and over again all day. Guest guest
hi fraggle, vijay, I hardly listen to the radio anymore. I really miss the radio, because, when my baby was younger, I still felt like I had "Adult topics" around me being discussed, especially because I was alone during the daytime. Now I have moved to a place were 99 percent of the radio is owned by a company called Clearwater. I didn't notice at first, but after a while, I realized that they were always saying something positive about Bush. It felt like there was not objective reporting and just very anti-liberal. All their, Bob's barbecue chicken grill restaurant, and "leather warehouse" commercials just turn me off. I don't like to label myself as anything, liberal or conservative, as I am a very complex individual, however, I notice that even "financing your money" shows, were sneaking positive coments about Bush, also, not to insult anyone on the list that is religious, but there are a million religious stations and they drive me up the wall. I feel like, it's believe in Jesus, Now! or you are the scum of the earth. There is one station that I listen to NPR, but most of the time, they just give classical music, because they can't afford the other shows, there isn't enough funding. I hope that I haven't offended anyone religious, I myself come from a very religious background, but It really feels like a monopoly when I listen to the radio. - 1/17/2005 1:05:30 PM Re: Is Radio Still Popular ? , fraggle <EBbrewpunx@e...> wrote:>I was referring to the real radio. :)When there is a natural disaster radio is cheap/frugal and can almost, always be expected to be there. Guest guest
You must try shortwave radio then. No commercials. Excellent high quality programs. They even have a newsgroup on the net for them. Vijay
Guest guest
it is real radio.... its just easier to listen to it on the web ... its got regular broadcast.... at home if i listen at all, it'll be pacifica, er some college stations (kalx-UC Berkeley, KUSF, etc), er maybe some pirate stations.... rvijay07 Jan 17, 2005 10:05 AM Re: Is Radio Still Popular ? , fraggle <EBbrewpunx@e...> wrote:>I was referring to the real radio. :)When there is a natural disaster radio is cheap/frugal and can almost, always be expected to be there. Guest guest
do you mean clear channel? they own something like 1200 radio stations across the US(and more worldwide), fer those keeping score, thats something like 70% of all radio stations here... since the FCCloosened its rules on aquisistions, Clearchannle has just gone nuts.. they are conservative dweebs, and host some pretty right wing shows.... and are extremely formulaic... they also own amphitheaters, and like almost a million outdoor billboards... can we say "monopoly" bois and gurls? As fer NPR..i find it a tad to..i dunno..bland... they definately have a moderate to right view point on a lot of things... anouk sickler Jan 17, 2005 11:05 AM RE: Re: Is Radio Still Popular ? hi fraggle, vijay, I hardly listen to the radio anymore. Do you feel that radio is still popular ? I don't know how popular it is, but radio ads sure are expensive (I pay the bills for them at my job). :-) I listen to a lot of radio, and watch almost no TV, but I don't think I'm in the mainstream with that. I listen to the local public station and KFOG (a faux-independent station in San Francisco) -- if there were a commercial-free music station, I would listen to that. I hate commercials. I watch a few videos a week, and about an hour of broadcast TV, if that. The TV isn't in a convenient place (on purpose), and we have to drag it out to watch it. I like it that way. serene
Guest guest
yes, I meant clear channel. It is quite a shame. It is no wonder Bush won here in florida. all the stations, all but one of them, where always talking about how wonderful he is. It is my understanding that Clear channel is owned by one guy, who will only hire republican DJ's. - fraggle 1/17/2005 3:48:44 PM RE: Re: Is Radio Still Popular ? do you mean clear channel? they own something like 1200 radio stations across the US(and more worldwide), fer those keeping score, thats something like 70% of all radio stations here... since the FCCloosened its rules on aquisistions, Clearchannle has just gone nuts.. they are conservative dweebs, and host some pretty right wing shows.... and are extremely formulaic... they also own amphitheaters, and like almost a million outdoor billboards... can we say "monopoly" bois and gurls? Guest guest
Jo, What is DAB ? Digital Audio Broadcasting is a new transmission system bringing the benefits of digital to the world of radio. The BBC are pushing this big time and have launched their own chanels ( probably to justify their licence fees!) Hope this helps.Jo Cwazy <heartwork wrote: Hi Peter What is DAB?
