Guest guest
Hi everyone: I have 3 GF in a 20G tank. One of my Gold Fish was sick and hardly used to swim, this was a few months ago. Giving peas helped. Then I started experimenting a little. I gave them other veggies: Cantelope, pineapple, banana, potatoes, chapathi (Indian Bread), rice, cooked beet root, finely cut lettuce etc., They all really started enjoying all these. So for the past 3 weeks or so, I give them pellet just once a week or so. Mostly I give them all the other veggies and Chapathi I mentioned above. They have all grown quite a bit in the last few weeks, developed excellent fins and look very colorful. Now it will be even more hard to part with them should the need ever arise. Moreover, it is sad that just a few months ago, I thought that the sick GF may die. Now this sick fish so healthy and swimming. His fins look like an angelic dream. Vijay _____________ No banners. Guest guest
Hi Vijay, I'm glad your fish is feeling better. I used to keep calico fantail goldfish, which are very beautiful. But then, during finals, I forgot to put an anti-ick agent into the water for a few days and a fungus took over the tank, killing the fish. I was so devastated that I just drained the tank and got rid of it. I like to go look at the goldfish when I'm at Petsmart but I don't know if I could ever get any ever again. One of my fishs seems to have some white growth. I did try medication but it goes and comes back. I do have Fantails. What is more important to focus on is the fact that you are a LOVING fish keeper and you give them a great home. In fact this is true for all pets. All living beings are subject to death by various causes. Most pets have a life time much shorter compared to man and hence will die before us. Accepting this is important. I ahve had several pet fish die, a little in advance of their theoratical life spans. Accepting it has given me great peace. It is most important to give pets a great life when they are alive. I hope you open your home to other pets. Best Regards, Vijay
Guest guest
Hi vijay, The way you were raised, teaches letting go. I know this is healthy mentally, but it's been two months since my cat died and I really still think about him. It is true, what you say, I did give him a good life, that's what counts, and we buried him our back yard, which was good. I find myself looking at his grave and talking to him, in my special mommy talk. My husband used to call him "fish breath" But I did love, that big ol orange thing. I will trow some flower seeds on top of it. I also cut off some of his fur off his tail and put it in a little box, that way he will alway be with me. I have a few tears a night, wanting to hug him just one more time and because he used to warm my feet. My other two cats don't do that. I also find myself hugging my other two cats more, Thinking about how long will I have them. I know it's silly, it's even sillier when I cried for him more than when my great aunt died. Anyway, time is a great healer, Thanks for the wise words. The most important is to get back immediately on your feet and get a replacement pet as there is another one who will benefit from your love and care. Some pet owners get so depressed that they don't get other pets after this. I explained all this to one good friend/pet owner and he suddenly stopped contact with me. That is fine, I will be and believe what I have to. Guest guest
I have pet parrots. I have lost 4 of parrots so far, all in the last year. They all died when I was present and begged for my Company in their last moments. They all died naturally. I still miss and love them dearly. Presently, I have two parrots also, sometimes I put them far away from me, on a high shelf etc., so that they can spend time alone. Their cage is open and they can go anywhere they want in my room and when I am present anywhere in my entire apartment. However, they wander very briefly and spend most time close to me. If I ever wakeup late they create such a racket. Vijay
Guest guest
how old were they? wot type of parrots? i'd be worried about having birds as children now..with the avian flu ready to bust out all over...not worried they'd pass it on to me, worried they'd just up and die ... rvijay07 Mar 4, 2005 1:13 PM Re: Sick Gold Fish Gets Very Healthy. All died in a spans of several months. 2 budgies, 1 cockatiel and one parrotlet. One budgie Vikram died when I was lipping his nails from shock, he was a rescue/older and never comfortable with me. The other Budgie was my favorite and very intelligent. he died from a leg infection/tumor. In between the two my cockatiel died from excessive egg laying and a bound egg (This is fairly common among female birds.) My parrotlet lastly, wanted to sleep with me, a very bad idea. But she was real lonely and I thought that after a few hours I will return her to her cage. So, I put her in my hands and covered her with my comforter. She really enjoyed and was playing with the comforter. I wokeup early morning to find her dead underneath me. Parrotlets are the smallest parrots on earth but can be very ferocious, specially the females. Vijay
