Guest guest
We've been in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, for a few days. We had a good time, but Weston SM is a vegan desert! We travelled to Bath two evenings, eat once at Demuths (I had noodle and vegetable dish), which was good - though quite expensive, and once at The Porter vegetarian pub. About half the menu was vegan, fairly basic and tasty (I had burger, chips and salad). It was a pleasant pub with music (unfortunately not metal), and fairly heaving with people. Another night we drove to Taunton to eat at The Lotus Flower. It is an omnivorous restaurant unfortunately but has a separate vegan/veggie menu. I had special rice and vegetables, which was very tasty. One day we went to Bristol and had lunch at The Matreya (I had roasted vegetables, marinated beetroot, paprika hummous, olives, salad and brown bread. It was enormous, and very tasty. Our B & B was not veggie, and the breakfasts were a little disappointing as they were like the meat ones without the meat, i.e. a little small! There was only baked beans, tomato and hash browns, with toast - one morning we had mushrooms instead of tomato. I know strictly speaking this is plenty for breakfast but when you are away you expect a large breakfast, especially when paying as much as the meat eaters who get twice as much bulk! Guest guest
Hi Jo, I ate at Demuths a couple of years ago and also found it very expensive, and the service a bit slow. Nearest restaurant that I know of that serves vegan food is in Penarth, but I have never been there. I tend to take my kids to Pizza Hut once in a while where they have a cheese and tomato one ( they are veggie not vegan ), as they enjoy it. Needless to say I dont have anything to eat there, a habit I found easy, as missing a meal here and there doesnt bother me. My wife usually ( if she comes with us ) has something with bits of pig on the top of hers. There was a vegan restaurant in Cardiff, called the Beez Neez, which closed early last year ( it only survived for about 10 months), but due to its location - above a shop in an arcade, and exclusivity, it floundered. Shame , as I frequented it as often as the funds would allow, and the food was very good. I think it important to use these places as much as possible if you have easy access to them. Guest guest
Hi Peter (VV) The service at Demuths is a little slow. It's a shame about Beez Neez. We are coming to Wales in a couple of months. We are self-catering, but it would be nice to eat out a couple of times. Guest guest
I am sure I will enjoy it. We're staying up Betws y Coed way. Good weather would be a bonus, but we'll enjoy it anyway. Many years ago we camped for two weeks in various locations in Wales, and it rained all of the time! It wasn't until the last day of our holiday that someone told us we had been camping on the wrong side of the mountains and hills .... doh!
