Guest guest
Hi Lynda On a couple of occasions you have asked why people are vegan, and have had answers. I would like to ask you why you are not vegan. Jo
Guest guest
If you mean the last question, it wasn't why they were vegans. It was if it was, in their belief system that one must be a protester of all things animal or it it could be just a style of eating. I'm not vegan because having pet chickens that lay eggs and rescued goats that we milk and then use the milk to make cheese from isn't my idea of harming an animal. We do rescues. I suppose we could stop doing the rescues and just let the critters be put down at the shelters. I certainly wouldn't rescue a lactating goat and let her stand there and get mastitis! Now that would be abject cruelty, IMNSHO! However, I came here to learn more about being vegan, mainly for the youngest kidlet. She has many questions. Vegans have been extremely rude to her IRL, so this was thought to be the safest way to ask her questions. She is 12, very thoughtful and spends much time pondering before she makes major decisions. She is also at the age where she doesn't take off the cuff " because I said so " type answers and will frequently head in the opposite direction if she gets them. And, at least here, the majority of the answers have been thoughtful. Lynda - Jo Cwazy <heartwork > Hi Lynda > > On a couple of occasions you have asked why people are vegan, and have had > answers. Guest guest
Hi Lynda I totally commend your goat rescuing, and I myself LOVE goat cheese too (it is lactose free!). But eating a vegan diet, I don't eat it. On the other hand if I had my own goat, I think I would. DOES THIS STILL MAKE ME VEGAN? Same with eggs, if they came from my own humanely treated chickens, I may consume them in with baking and dressings. I LOVE TO COOK AND AN EGG is THE ONLY THING I KNOW OF THAT IS ABLE TO EMULSIFY OIL> lately I've been making my caesar salad dressing with silken tofu, (healthier but not as good) DOES ANY ONE KNOW HOW TO EMULSIFY OIL WITHOUT EGG???? Guest guest
If you consumed milk you would not be vegan. Guest guest
but goats will only produce milk for around 6 monnths after giving birth and then it will naturally tail off, what happens to the goat then ? Do you keep them until they die of old age or do you make them have another kid? and then what happens to this kid? Guest guest
We rescue them. We milk until they dry up. In the mean time we teach them to be good little critters. Some we place with petting zoos, one went to a group that teaching children about animals. Some have been placed with homes as pets. Some go to a neigbor that rents them out to forage to get rid of blackberries and poison oak. They all sign contracts and aren't allowed to breed them and must return them to us if they can no longer care for them. Some of our " girls " are now over 10 years old. Generally 8 more years than they had before we rescued them. No, we don't breed them.
