Guest guest
Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Proclamation - 1870 Arise then...women of this day! Arise, all women who have hearts! Whether your baptism be of water or of tears! Say firmly: " We will not have questions answered by irrelevant agencies, Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, For caresses and applause. Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We, the women of one country, Will be too tender of those of another country To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs. " From the voice of a devastated Earth a voice goes up with Our own. It says: " Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice. " Blood does not wipe our dishonor, Nor violence indicate possession. As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil At the summons of war, Let women now leave all that may be left of home For a great and earnest day of counsel. Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead. Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means Whereby the great human family can live in peace... Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar, But of God - In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask That a general congress of women without limit of nationality, May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient And the earliest period consistent with its objects, To promote the alliance of the different nationalities, The amicable settlement of international questions, The great and general interests of peace. == == == == == Mother's Day: A History of Peace Mother's Day is not a Hallmark holiday. It is a call to peace by women who lost their sons in the Civil War. Visit our on-line store for ideas or our special Mother's Day gift packages. You may place orders up to May 2nd, 2005. Whatever you do, please take some action on Mother's Day to commemorate the true meaning of this day, to continue Marla's work on behalf of innocent victims, and to end the insanity of sacrificing our children to war. " ....the lamentation of a wounded British lieutenant after World War I: " You want to know what was the most awful thing? To find out that the women can smile and throw roses, that they can give up their men, their children, the boys they have put to bed a thousand times and pulled the covers over a thousand times, and they gave us up – that they sent us – sent us! The women sent us. No general could have made us go if the women hadn't allowed us to be stacked on the trains, if they had screamed out that they would never look at us again if we turned into murderers. " I’m gonna tell all you fascists you may be surprised The people in this world are getting organized You’re bound to lose, you fascists are bound to lose
Guest guest
This is such exciting news for you, Kenia. What an opportunity to show your family some excellent vegetarian food! How about trying Donna's Con Quiche tador? When is Mother's Day over there? - ours in Britain was last month I believe. wishing you all the best for a successful meal. I had better b\hurry and try some recipes from the files. I know I'll be making hummus, guacamole, and I thought about the hominy and black bean enchiladas because my family loves both of those and I've never tried them in an enchilada dish. I want to make a quiche or dinner pie or casserole also. > Kenia >
