At the grocery store the other day, the clerk in the next lane asked the lady checking out what was in the produce bag. She says, " I don't know, some kind of pepper. " My clerk tells the other clerk to hold it up so she can help her out. She's got 5 habaneros in the bag. My clerk doesn't know what kind of peppers they are either, so I pipe up and tell them that they are habaneros. The other clerk rings them up and the lady buying them never bats an eye... My clerk comments to me that it cracks her up when people buy stuff when they don't know what it is, because how can you use it when you get home. I said, " Well, yeah, especially when it comes to peppers ... she's going to be mighty surprised when she uses those habaneros in whatever she's using them in.... " LOL. I hope she wasn't feeding them to her kids! Guest guest
Ooooooh, LOL. Some people think that the pepper is so small and cute that it must be mild. Next thing you know they are sweating up a storm, tongue out running towards the water faucet. LOL, poor thing. Water won't help, run for a piece of bread. Guest guest
Yikes! *lol* That is funny. I am so glad I asked here before sticking that hab in my soup recipe. I just finished cooking it and used 1/2, as recommended, and it came out great. Nice kick to it, but not so hot you cannot tell the delicate flavors of the rest of the ingredients; perfect. We actually ate pizza for dinner and the soup is for tomorrow, but my husband tasted it for me and said it rated 2 thumbs up. While I was cooking it and typing my question about those chilis here, he was looking over my shoulder. Then later he came out and asked if I used the whole thing and I said, " Are you nuts?! When two guys from Texas tell me to be careful with a chili pepper, I listen! " *lol* So glad I did. Thanks Gary and Shawn. ~ P_T ~ All slang is metaphor, and all metaphor is poetry. -G.K. Guest guest
Speaking of habaneros. Why the heck do they " rot " so fast compared to other hot peppers? Whenever I bring a slew of hot peppers back from the grocery store and spread them out on the table, the habaneros get spots and disintegrate in mere days, while the others are fine. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , Gary Mattingly <gsmattingly wrote: > > These sound good.
