No way can you stay on 500 calories and maintain good health. I lost

weight on 1,200 calroies and so have many of my friends and 3 are

diabetic.

I agree, 500 is dangerous and extreme.

second opinion. I have a lot of weight to lose and I am on a 1200

calorie diet. I would think a 500 calorie diet would send your body in

shock let alone what it will do for your sugar levels. Best of luck

500 calories a day is dumb, IMO. Certainly the body will initially loose weight

but then the body will go into starvation mode which means it will hold onto

every calorie it can get. Continue longer and you are in serious nutritional

difficulty.

You probably won't believe this but I am wheeling (not walking) proof of the

dangers of malnutrition. It didn't take very long, either and includes

neurological damage.

The best way to loose weight? Cut calories, balanced diet and up the exercise.

Exercise doesn't necessarily mean you need a gym and equipment, even a half hour

walking daily can and will make a positive impact on your health. My personal

daily exercise routine isn't the one I used to use before the neurological

damage but now included arm and upper body exercises and leg exercises while in

bed. I love the resistance bands my physical therapist gave me and work with

them a lot.

Re the 500 cal diet, even nutritionist handbooks say that certain diets (liquid,

clear, severly reduced calorie..the 500 one), is NOT nutritionally balanced.

Now, when I was totally unable to leave the bed (before getting my wheelchair

and enough upper body strength to lift myself), I had 4 bottles of V8 juice a

day and an evening meal my husband made. Total daily calories was under 800

calories and I GAINED.

I really think the extra exercise is the magic bullet here for weight loss.

Muscle burns more calories than fat. It is possible to make a1,000 to 1,200 cal

diet you balanced. 500....unless you are totally bed bound IMO is not a good

idea.

Hope this helps, Jeanne in GA

I had dental work done and was on about 500n calories

for a few days and I was so weak I could hardly move

around. That is about the most unhealthy diet yet.

It will certainly throw off your metabolism like you

said Jeanne.

Captain comet is dead on the run,

the words of love,

do they ever touch Dolly Brown?

Better get some highway and clear out of town.

Here comes Dolly Dagger,

her loves so heavy its gonna make you stagger.
