I can't take extreme weather I don't think.

I'm from L.A. and don't have an AC and I can go year

after year and never turn the heater on.

Donna,

It is really temperate in LA. Interesting, never knew it was like that there.

I love hearing about the different parts of the country and how and why folks

love it where they live.

What drew me to Alaska was my parent. I was born in Fairbanks back prior to

statehood. Why I stay is because there is no place else on the face of this

earth that I would rather be, most of the time.

When it is really cold outside, I sometimes wonder about my sanity, but in

general I like it here.

It is about 15* right now. That is a big improvement over yesterday when it

was below zero and the wind was howling like a banshee. I don't mind temps

down to about 30* and am completely comfortable with heat up to about 85*. I

never have to worry about temperatures here going over 85, in fact over 75 is

rare.

As long as I can keep the house warm, I tend to just stay at home when it is

cold. I don't work outside my home, so unless it is an emergency or a promise,

I just put off errands till it warms up. It usually doesn't stay below zero for

more than about 5 days at a time,

Alaskan weather is changing a lot due to global warming. It never reached

even 80* until the last couple years. Our winters have been warmer and less

snow that they used to be 20 years ago. I kind of like global warming. LOL

The long hours of darkness can get to me, though. Durring the winter we may

only have a couple hours of daylight and since I don't drive in the dark, I am

pretty much housebound. 22 or more hours of sunshine do make the summers nice.

You know what's funny...I lived in LA fir 5 years and the 1st 3 I was always

freezing at night. I grew up in Florida (I'm back now) and it doesn't really

cool down at night.

It was 89 degrees yesterday and will only get up to 66 today. We are all

FREEZING this morning. I know this sounds really wimpy to those of you who live

in the great white north!!
