Guest guest
Do you think I can make it from the pulp leftover when I juice? Sue
Guest guest
I made wonderful stock from pulp leftovers. It takes more pulp than you would expect, though, because the juice that is gone has so much of the flavor. I wouldn't bare to just throu it away so I make broth and I even make vegetable bread with the pulp. I make bird food with it, too. I love to watch the birds come for a snack. Guest guest
I'm getting a juicer soon, so I'm also interested in this. Katie, do you strain and throw the pulp away afterwards? Also, I'd love to hear more about that bread. ;-) I'm a little wary of trying to feed any birds with it since I have 3 indoor/outdoor cats. Guest guest
Yes, after the stock is done just strain it with a cheese cloth and toss the pulp. The pulp isn't good for anything else except composting after that When I am making stock I toss most of the beet pulp because I find that the flavor of it comes through loud and strong and over powers everything else. I also add some potatoes cause I don't juice them so they are not in the pulp mess. About the bread...... I was making bread one day and a recipe for onion bread caught my eye. I thought, " well, I have vegi pulp right handy, I wonder how that would work " . It did. Everyone loved it. I was in the midst of making just regular whole wheat bread at the time and like any recipe, the amount of flour varies. I just threw in about 1 1/2 cups of vegetable pulp and kept adding flour until it looked and felt the right consistency. I am sorry I can't give a better recipe than that, I kind of cook by the seat of my pants and often don't remember what I put into stuff when it is done. Fortunately my husband is culinary adventuresome. If I put it in front of him he eats it. If he really likes something he usually exclaims " You can make this for me again any day " and my usual answer is. Well, I will try to remember what I put in it. " LOL I have make bread several times with vegi pulp and it works but I have no idea of how much pulp or extra flour it would take for a bread machine. I don't know if this qualifies as a TNT recipe or not. LOL Katie Sharon Zakhour <sharon.zakhour wrote: I'm getting a juicer soon, so I'm also interested in this. Guest guest
When my birdfeeder overflowed I had Sammy the Squirrel and Randy the Rat fighting over the seeds. I don't think I will put my pulp outside. <g> Sue ---- Sharon Zakhour 3/5/2007 7:19:54 PM Re: Vegetable stock? I'm getting a juicer soon, so I'm also interested in this. Guest guest
LOL I have up 3 feeders and the birds love them.. My cats don't bother them and we have 8 indoor/outdoor cats. They just lay in the lawn and watch them with interest, but not in attack mode. The birds don't even pay them any attention, thank goodness and cover the feeders. I've heard that birds and squirrels really like the sliced fresh fruit, but when we put it out for them, they never touched it, but boy did the bees like it. ugh......the bees may have scared them off. Guest guest
Sammy's cousin lives near here and is a pest, but None of Randy's realitives live in Alaska. We have squirrel proof bird feeders.
