I just found out that research has shown that ginger is more effective than

medicines like dramamine in combating motion sickness.

I am amazed and eat something seasoned with ginger next time I am taking a

long car trip or on carnaval rides.

I was pleasantly surprised on a plane trip when I tried Ginger caplets instead

of

Dramamine and it worked without the drowsiness. Not sure if it would work on a

bumpy

flight though!?

Similarly, it has been found effective in

ameliorating the nausea associated with chemotherapy:

Not to mention help with the treatment itself:

Wow! Thanks for all the information. It is amazing how little ginger

American's eat. If they just knew how good for them it was, they may eat it.

Naw, probably not. They won't listen to what meat does to them, cause they

don't want to have to make the decision to eat themselves to death. They would

rather it just happen.

my dh makes his own crystallized ginger by the large tupperware containerful.

he peels then simmers sliced ginger in simple syrup for awhile then drains it

(the resulting syrup is great on oatmeal, pancakes, waffles, ice cream, etc....)

then tosses it in granulated sugar & allows to dry on large pans. pack it up

w/sugar & you should SEE my 6yo gobble it up.

Beth yes, I got marked down frequently in English class for run-on sentences.

just ask Mr. Buck, lol.

That sounds good. Does he let it air dry on sheet pans or does he put it in

the oven on a very low temp of like 200 or something?

combine 1 part sugar & 1 part water in a saucepan & bringto a boil until sugar

has dissolved. good for poaching fruits, too. I do this in a 12 " frypan & add

1 scraped vanilla bean for poaching peeled pears. Heavenly.

I have a friend who had intensive chemo & ginger made a world of

difference with her nausea. It was a huge relief & very cool to see

:^) As an aside, I'm not sure where I read it (I think it was another

list), but freezing ginger, skin & all, makes it lots easier to peel &

grate, and it keeps for up to six months in the freezer :)

Peace,

Maureen
