Milk toast is one of my favorite childhood and adult foods.

There are two ways of making it. The first is to butter a thick slice

of bread on both sides. Preferably French bread or any other similar

whole loaf. As long as the slice is apx. twice the thickness of a

regular bread slice. The bread can also be toasted but the pan fried

works best.

Brown the buttered bread on both sides.

Place in a bowl and pour very hot milk(scalded not boiling) over the

bread.

I always ate mine salt and peppered but it can also be sugared with

cinnamon.

**You can substitute soy milk and Smart Balance for milk and butter.

Breakfast rice is a good way to use left over rice. Just add sugar,

cinnamon and milk..Seve either hot or cold.

Most kids love milk toast and breakfast rice and it is a good

substitute for cereals.

Sending smiles and hugs your way

And I thought that my family was the only one to have milk toast!!! It is a

wonderful

antidote to what ails you. Whenever I wasn't able. or didn't want to eat

anything else

I could eat milk toast. We always buttered the bread but I am going to give

pan fried

a try. We also used s & p instead of sugar. Thanks for the memories. I

may have some

for supper tonight!!

My mom threatened us with it when we were sick, too. Amazing how fast we got

better.

No, no, Katie. You've got it all WRONG! When made right, it's DELISH!

Of course, maybe your mom made it icky on purpose as a motivating

device. :-D

My mother was not a good cook by anyones standards. I started cooking for the

family when I was 12 because I was a better cook than she was. She was

probably doing the best she could.

Have you ever done left-over rice with just brown sugar in it? My Grandma

got me HOOKED on that stuff. A lot of the time I'll go to the trouble of

cooking rice just FOR this. :)
