Guest guest
Are all the recipes that are posted on the message board in the files?? You all share alot of great recipes and I am wondering if I should be writing all this down. I love all the home remedies. I am not one to take alot of medicine. Luckily my kids are healthy and have never run into alot of problems. Speaking of kids. My kids are 3 & 4. Do you with young children cook them meat or vegetarian foods?? My children eat both. What are some good things for kids?? I love the leftover rice with sugar, cinnamon, raisens and milk. I am going to see if they like it. I know I will!! I love food. Guest guest
We're transitioning to a veggie diet. DH is gone over completely, I still get some preggo cravings for meat, and my kids (4 and almost 2) are getting along well but I'm getting some resistance from my family so they like to give the kids meat just to see what I'll say. DS' preschool lunch contains meat, but he's only in school twice a week, so it's not a whole lot. My DD's new fave is peanut butter and jelly on flatbread rolled up! My parents packed PB & J for out lunches for 5 years straight, I've gotten pretty sick of it! But my kiddos love it! The flatbread is whole wheat so it's better than the white bread I used to get. The best part of all this right now is that not buying meat cuts my grocery bill nearly in half! Guest guest
Tracey, My hubby is a meat eater and is concerned about our young boys becoming vegetarian. He is worried about protein primarily, I guess. I am still making meat for them (although not enjoying preparing it anymore!) but I do serve a strictly vegetarian meal for the whole family several times a week. Hubby and the boys love corn chowder, vegetarian chili, cabbage soup, and several other vegetarian main dishes. ~ Aisling
Guest guest
Hi Aisling, Being a vegetarian, especially a strict vegetarian (vegan), isn't just eliminating meat/milk protein from the diet, you have to substitute that with plant based protein. We need about 30-50 grams of protein a day. Legumes, nuts, and seeds are excellent sources of plant protein without the saturated fat and cholesterol of animal products. There are also excellent soy based meat substitutes that meat eaters will love if prepared correctly. A common misconception of meat eaters is that being vegetarian is just eating salads. You will find a lot of excellent, protein rich recipes in this group!!! I actually am well educated in nutrition, but I should have hubby read your message so he hears that from someone besides me! *grin* The first time I was a vegetarian (way back when) we were very concerned about making a " complete vegetarian protein " at each meal (my folks went vegetarian at the same time I did as a young adult.) Now I understand that it is not as necessary to get it all at one meal, just over the course of a day. Despite that, I still try as often as possible to have protein present and accounted for at each meal. That allays my husband's concerns. Thanks again for your helpful comment! regards, ~ Aisling
