Guest guest
Thanks, Yvette. It's not closeby, but if I'm in that neighborhood I'll look for it. There's a couple of stores I have in mind to check, though. I'll keep my eyes open. Melinda
Guest guest
Ahh Whole Foods and Ye Seekers are like a vacation. I love those stores. There bulk bins are great (no grazing, yeah right, jk). You can also go to the regular supermarkets and look for MorningStar products in the freezer section. They have fake bacon and sausage and patties and corndogs etc. MX >Yvette Trahan <trahany > > > " Fake " Bacon >Mon, 01 Jul 2002 06:13:41 -0400 > >on 7/1/02 2:12 AM, iris054 at clicker wrote: > > > Oh, this sounds great, Susan! Guest guest
The best fake bacon that I've found is from Morningstar Farms. You can visit their website to find a store near you: http://kellogg.marketlocator.com/Kelloggs/US/KNutr.nsf/Products.html? OpenPage Their products do have a ton of " ingredients " and I only eat them rarely as they have so many preservatives and chemicals. But for a bacon and HP sandwhich, it's the best! Guest guest
A couple of months ago, someone posted a recipe for homemade fake bacon. I looked in the archives in a couple of folders for substitutes but could not find it. Does someone know where it might be? Thanks GB
Guest guest
Was it this one GB? Portia posted it. It's in the not-pig folder in the Substitutes file. Think I'll try this one myself Peace, Diane Better Than Bacon vegan version recipe 1/2 cup soy sauce 1 tbs nutritional yeast flakes 1 tbs maple syrup 1/2 tbs liquid smoke 1/2 lb. extra-firm tofu, drained Mix the soy sauce, yeast flakes, maple syrup, and liquid smoke together in a shallow container. With a cheese slicer, shave the tofu into very thin slices. Marinate the tofu in the soy sauce mixture for 1 day or more. To cook, heat a lightly oiled, heavy skillet or non stick griddle over medium-high heat. When the pan is hot, fry the tofu slices until they are golden-brown and almost crispy on both sides, scraping underneath the slices as you turn them with a sturdy spatula. Turn several times during cooking, and cool in the pan (the " tofu-bacon " crisps up as it cools). This makes excellent " BLT " sandwiches and can be crumbled or diced and added to other dishes for a bacon-like flavor. Makes about 40 slices. , " hariatmayoga " <hariatmayoga wrote: > > A couple of months ago, someone posted a recipe for homemade fake > bacon. Guest guest
Diane, I thought the one I saw had TVP as the main ingredient. I alos think it was posted by one of the men. It was awhile ago, so I may be wrong. This does look like a good recipe though. I will try it. Thanks for looking it up. GB , " strayfeather1 " <otherbox2001 wrote: > > Was it this one GB?
