Hi everybody! I am coming out of lurk-ness and am about to ask a

question...where in the world can I find egg substitute? I live in

Middle-of-Nowhere, Alabama, and all we have is a Piggly Wiggly, a FoodLand, and

a Wal-Mart. All I have found at all of these places is egg whites in little

cartons. I don't eat eggs but I am really craving an omelet. MMMM!!!!

By the way...is anybody else COLD??? It's a whopping 43 degrees here in North

Alabama. It's usually in the 80's this time of year (with 80% humidity! My poor

frizzy hair!!!).

Happy Easter, everyone!!!

I buy egg substitute in Costco, Sam's club, safeway or Frey Meyer. And yes, I

am cold, too. It is 45* here in Anchorage. Katie

What is the egg substitute called? I've been wanting to substitute my eggs for

sometime. I might be able to find them. Thanks!

Hi Jessica,

It is called " Ener-G Egg Replacer " , and comes as a powder in a one

pound box. It is made with potato starch and tapioca flour. My wife

uses it for making pancakes and thickening soups (of course, hiding the

box so our teens don't see it!!! HAHAHA).

you can often use tofu as an egg replacement too. I have used the Ener-G in

cookies,

muffins, it works very nicely.

Ener-G Egg Replacer is a good substitute that I use for baking. It should be

fairly easy to find at your health food store or supermarket.

Whizzed tofu is also a good substitute. Blend silken tofu in a blender or food

processor until smooth and creamy. 1/4 cup = 1 egg. You can use non-silken

tofu also, but I find that silken is easier.

There are other substitutes that you can find by doing a search for egg replacer

or egg substitute.

I haven't gotten around to trying the Ener-G sub. yet. But recently

I've been using apple sauce with cookies and muffins and it seems to

work just fine. It doesn't even seem to add any taste and is good if

you're looking for a cheaper replacement.

1/4 cup apple sauce = 1 egg (this is the suggestion I've been going by)

But as others have mentioned there are so many options - it's good to

know!

Egg Beaters are made from egg whites. So I guess if you're vegan, they

would be taboo. I spent money on them a couple of times and then discovered

that I was paying for egg whites and decided it was cheaper to just buy a

dozen eggs and throw away the yolks.

RE: Egg substitute?

Do egg beaters count as egg substitutes? Or are they just the whites? I've

never thought to check the carton out I get other than to see that they have

no cholesterol in them. If so, Rachel, you can probably get them at

Wal-Mart.

And yes, I am freezing!!! Thankfully, it was warm inside our church this

morning!!!
