Guest guest
well I heard the moans this morning as I made out my grocery list PB & J, Cheese sandwiches with lettuce, cereal with soymilk, and bagels with cream cheese again Mom! So I stopped and promised the boys I would ask the groups I am involved in what's in your kids lunchbox? My boys don't like hummus, cold eggs or cold veggie nuggets what is a mom to do? Guest guest
My son is going to be starting school in September and I was wanting to know what to make also. Plus, how do your kids handle being one of the only kids that are vegetarian at achool? Guest guest
We are very blessed that both our kids have fellow students that are vegeterians so it makes it a lot easier but we have been only veggie for about three years so my 10 year old still misses the meaty meals served in the lunch room. I allow the kids to have Pizza on Monday and normally any other animal friendly meals (which are rare). We are not vegans so it is a lot easier on them then some of their friends who are vegans and cannot share with birthdays, school ice cream days and other fun things. I want to buy the veagn lunchbox book when I get a chance but right now we do a lot of the things I listed in the first e-mail. Good Luck it is worth it plus these groups are soooo helpful while you are making the changes. Steph Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos. Guest guest
How about veggie baloney sandwiches with lots of yellow mustard? Veggie ham on biscuits with dijon? Soft tacos--except you said no cold stuff that's usually warm--vegan chicken salad wraps (I looooove that!) or in a little tupperware so they can spread it on crackers? A lot of those little " jello " with fruit bowls contain no gelatin, too! Peanut butter on apple slices, pasta salad, carrot sticks and dressing, 3 bean salad, sub sandwiches with veggies and tofurkey slices, pitas stuffed with bean & veggie salad with ranch dressing to pour on it. Occasionally throwing in some chips or desserts doesn't hurt either. It's a lot more like the other kids' lunches that way. Honestly I doubt the other kids' lunches are all that exciting. School lunches when I was a kid were nasty and only eaten as a last resort. So you might want to ask them what they see in other kids' lunches that makes them jealous. It may not be anything more than a baggie with some potato chips in it. I remember one person who said her kids missed meat dinners and she didn't know what to do. So she asked her kids what they missed. It turned out that they couldn't care less about the meat, they just missed the sides--mashed potatoes and stuffing and things. Easily fixed. It pays to ask. Guest guest
When my daughter is in elementary school she went through a phase were she brought salsa, chips and veggies for lunch. There is also just veggies and dip. She also would bring peanut butter and banana sandwiches or peanut butter and apple sandwiches. You can also get veggie cold cuts, My daughter likes the tofurky slices. You can also do a pasta salads in a cold thermos and soup in a hot thermos. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your suggestions and websites. My boys are so picky they won't eat the " meat " slices But I have lots of new ideas for this week. I'm excited. I am also going to make the tofuna this week and see if it goes well.
