Guest guest
well I made the plunge and bought a Black and Decker Steamer. I had a certificate so I only paid $4 for it. I made brown rice in it last night and this morning I made Bulger with cinnamon and sugar for breakfast. It is great the only thing I don't like is the ticking it drives me crazy so I just put on the TV or radio but I can already tell this is something that won't go in the junk closet. I am thrilled. Guest guest
<< well I made the plunge and bought a Black and Decker Steamer. >> I also like that it shuts itself off. Sometimes I start it up to cook brown rice and then go to the store for the rest of the ingredients for dinner. I don't have to worry about it. I also use it outside in the summer. I don't have a good air conditioner and never like to add heat or humidity to the inside of the house. -- Kat_Doyle (@earthlink.net)
Guest guest
I have never had luck making rice – burned on the bottom – too sticky – too dry – a big mess on the range --until I bought a Black and Decker Steamer @ Walmart for $19.99. It was money well spent and I celebrated after the first batch of rice – It Was Perfect!! The first Perfect rice I have made. It was brown rice and I used a 2 c water : 1 c rice ratio. I made a batch more recently using a ratio of 2 ½ c water to 1 c rice and it boiled over – however, still perfect. Even that wasn’t as difficult to clean as when it boils over on the stove. I love that it turns itself off and I don’t have to worry with it. Haven’t tried white rice yet. Guest guest
Okay, is it called a rice steamer or a veggie steamer or what? That's the price range I'm looking at - plus, there's just me half the time so I don't need anything too big. And, did you buy it in the store or order it online? I've made up my mind to get one - I'm getting way too forgetful! Guest guest
<< Okay, is it called a rice steamer or a veggie steamer or what? >> I use the bigger B & D steamer. When I cook rice I cook at least 2 cups dry rice and freeze leftovers. Less energy usage this way. And I also usually toss a couple tablespoons of wild rice into the measuring cup, and add a bouillon cube to the rice basket before turning it on. Yum. The steamer is also nice for steaming veg hot dogs. -- Kat_Doyle (@earthlink.net)
Guest guest
Thanks! I'll have to look for it... right after I get my granddaughter's Disney Princess toddler bed set. I've got the bed, found the mattress (which I still have to get) and she was sitting on my lap looking at the different ones. When I closed the picture of the Disney Princess set, she turned around and smacked me! Guess that's her way of saying " Nana THAT'S the one I want!! " She's here 4 nights a week until 11:00 to after midnight so she's got to have her own bed. Funny girl! Guest guest
It is called a Rice Steamer Plus. I have no idea what the Plus part is about and now can't find the manual. I can probably get one online somewhere. I bought it in the store - they didn't have them after Christmas when I first decided I wanted one so I had to wait awhile. You can probably get it online too. It is not too big so doesn't take up too much space on the countertop or on a shelf. You shouldn't use it directly under the upper cabinets because of the steam it releases (that comes with some sputter from the cooking rice and makes a little mess). Two cups w/4 cups water is about all it will hold. _____ On Behalf Of Penny Thursday, April 26, 2007 9:29 AM RE: veggie steamer Okay, is it called a rice steamer or a veggie steamer or what? Guest guest
My family got our rice cooker at walgreens for $8. It cooks the rice to perfection and has been worth the " investment " . LOL! But seriously none of us could live without it. We've had it for about five years and it's going strong. I still see them in the weekly ads quite regularly. Guest guest
I bought one of these B & Ds 4-5 years ago and have used it 2-3 times a week ever since. It's great--even makes brown rice fluffy and edible. It's got an insert for herbs when steaming veggies, but I've never used that. In fact, don't steam veggies much anymore-- prefer saute with chili garlic sauce [Huy Fong Foods}. Satisfies your hunger and clears your sinuses at the same time. , Steph <mrswalp29 wrote: > > well I made the plunge and bought a Black and Decker Steamer.
