Guest guest
Has anyone found any difference in cooking brown rice versus white rice in a rice cooker? I am thinking that it needs more time to cook with the outer shealth still on it. Note: I learned years ago when I cooked brown rice on the stove to " dextonize " the rice in a teflon frying pan ... just toast them till I could smell them toasting and then cooking them in a 2 to 1 (water to rice) proportion. Any ideas here? Thanks, NtN
Guest guest
Use the same ratio of water to rice as you would use to cook it in a presure cooker or on the stove. I will take over an hour to cook, but the rice cooker should go off by itself when the rice is done because at that point the water is all absorbed. Basically it works the same as white rice, but takes more water and longer. A rice cooker is the easiest way to cook brown rice. The guy who raised my mom's parrot told her it would kill pet birds. Has anyone else heard this? NIF Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos. Guest guest
<< Has anyone found any difference in cooking brown rice versus white rice in a rice cooker? >> I use the same ratio of water to rice as I do with white rice, but after I add the water and rice to the cooker I let the rice soak for 30 minutes before I turn the cooker on. It does take a long time to cook, but brown rice takes a long time to cook anyway. I usually add some dehydrated vegetables, veggie bouillon cube, wild rice and green lentils to the mix. When doing this the ratio is 1 cup brown rice (jasmine or basmati) to 2-1/2 or 3 cups water plus 1 tbsp each dehydrated carrot dice, celery dice, spinach, wild rice, and green (or red) lentils. I also usually add 2 tbsp dehydrated onion. After everything soaks for half an hour I turn on the rice cooker and let it cook until it shuts off, which is around an hour. This is especially good if I drizzle olive oil pressed with lemon over it before serving. -- Kat_Doyle (@earthlink.net)
