Welcome to the group!  I decided to be veg and then got a book, but either way,

you are here and will find some great recipes.  All the members are very

knowledgable and have tons of good advice/experience to share with you.

Hi Everyone,

A few days ago, I was out Christmas shopping. Outside of Walmart I

started talking to a nice lady. She gave me a book " The Higher Taste, A

guide to Gourmet Vegetarian Cooking and a Karma-Free Diet " .

I must confess, I never thought about being a vegetarian, but this book

in interesting. It states a clear arguement why people should be

vegetarians. So much so, I would like to give it a try. I even did the

pro and con thing, and had nothing in the con side. except of course,

my knowledge of the subject.

The down-side, I only eat cold salads and occasionally some steamed

veggies. So--I find myself here. To learn of some excellent recipies.

In my search, i'm sure I will come across one or two to share with the

wonderful people here.

Thank you for letting me be here,

Christy

Welcome Christy

I too am a newbie vegetarian, a few years now. When I first joined I was a

pescatarian-vegetarian. This group is an inspiration! I also belong to other

groups too, for the simple reason that one can modify most any recipe to make it

vegetarian.

You would really enjoy this group. I love it here.

Welcome, Christy --

Thanks for sharing your very interesting introduction to cruelty-free

eating. The kindness of strangers, indeed!

Most of us were given meat as a matter of course when we were first

learning about how to be in the world. And many of us didn't question

our eating habits until 'something' woke us up. For me, it was

reading Frances Moore Lappe's _Diet For A Small Planet_ in the mid

70s. For others it's being shown a film about what goes on inside a

slaughter house, reading _Mad Cowboy_, or through the influence of

friends.

You'll find an amazing variety of recipes in the Files and lots of

friendly, helpful people on this list to answer your questions and

offer guidance and encouragement.
