But I kind of feel that Dh and I both converted eachother. My dd decided for herself that she wanted to stop eating meat when she realized where the meat came from. I collect ceramic chickens and she LOVES them. When she found out that she was eating a real chicken one day, she freaked and refused to eat it again... She isn't so rigid anymore (she'll eat it if she's hungry), but she always asks if what we're having is " real " , meaning an animal food.... I think my son really got me thinking the most about it though. He came home one day from school and declared that he wasn't going to eat " beef " anymore because it came from a cow (he's 9 yrs old). This happened before my daughter decided to stop eating meat (or as much meat). So, with the kids behind us, we made the decision as a family to stop purchasing meat for the household. I don't know if I notice any bodily changes in us... One thing I can think of (but I am not sure if it has to do with not eating meat) is that I have only gained 10 pounds so far for my pregnany. I am 27 weeks, 3 days along and usually I have already gained 20 pounds by now... (this is my 3rd pregnancy). Someone suggested that it was because of my eating habits. So who knows! Well this response sure got long winded. LOL Sorry about that. Jeaninne
Guest guest
True Donna, that is a great topic, I hope to hear stories! Ya know, one thing that helped my daughter accept me and stop crying every time I won't eat meant when she and Dad do (she is now 8) is that a lot of TV characters are becoming vegetarian. What helped me with Jessalyn is Chelsea from That's so Raven, and Lisa Simpson. ) It's freezing in here, why? uh oh, hope I don't have a fever, there is a bug going around. I better go an take some vitamin C with my green tea. Guest guest
I almost have converted my fiance. He still likes a smoked turkey sandwich now and then. It was my good cooking and the recipes I have gained from this group, my Aunt Donna, plus what we have studied in medical college that helped here. Guest guest
It was this group that converted me completely. I have my family making tamales without lard now. Who fixed up the homepage? Man, it's really detailed like I detail my car. Really an eye catcher. Guest guest
Oh get some EmerGenC packets, make some garlic soup, and keep yourself well for us here. Watch and see, Jess listens to the conflict about should I eat meat like Dad or should I not eat meat like Mom. Your hubby likes to pick at you and tease I'll bet, just because you are not eating meat and doing just fine. He's stubbron and yet he drives you to Whole Foods, just keep smiling. I really feel Jess will make the change one day soon. I like the wh.com site very much and saved it to browse later. Your sister get you a veggie burger out? Those aren't too good but makes a quick meal when you are stuck out there on the highway, I sure don't crave them. I love hearing back on this topic. Guest guest
I haven't totally converted anyone yet. However, my mom is working towards it. She talks about how much better she feels when she's been to my house several days in a row and eats pretty much nothing but veggie food that I've fixed. Also, she talks about how she has started to get sick when she eats meat. I think 3 things have started to help convince her. 1) I look better, lost weight, and she says she sees a happier side to me 2) the food she's had at my house was actually good 3) she knows how I've tried other life style changes and this is the only one that has stuck. Guest guest
speaking of feeling better, how about talking about our immune system? when i was a meat-eater, i used to get the flu approx. 6x/yr. now i only do about 2-3x/yr. but the most remarkable was when i got dengue early this year (i'm a filipino in the philippines, just in case some of you might worry that you will get it). dengue hemorrhagic fever is where the quality and quantity of platelets deteriorate, so the patient has a chance of bleeding to death. the early management is just fluids and observation. but i will tell you that it is the worst that i felt! i had to check my platelets twice a day. if it falls below 150,000, i will be admitted to a hospital. my attending and i agreed to that, because 150k is the low normal value. it really was dengue because my platelets show that my numbers were falling every 12hrs, but never below 200k. i was actually in so much pain that i wanted to be admitted, until that evening's platelet count showed my count was beginning to increase. my attending (and based on my experience, too), we haven't encountered that sort of case where you had dengue but your platelets don't fall below normal. now i don't know if that's attributed to my immune system/being vegetarian. but it's a good story to brag to meat-eaters. ;-) -soleil , J Rouge <spice_e_talula_rouge> wrote: > > > I haven't totally converted anyone yet. Guest guest
Soleil, Isn't it grand? <VBG> My dh also comments that the first reason he decided to go veg was health. Then he started feeling sooo much better in every way. And he is more mild in temper too, nowadays. Plus he gets a lot more done on his job, which translates to more money and more " good points " with his boss. I am more creative, am able to do more, enjoy my rubberstamping, cardmaking, quilting, and piano playing in more varied aspects. Honestly, it's just amazing! Now we both are very committed, in a way even more so than because of health, due to the way the poor animals are treated before their miserable existence is ended, however. I can't think for very long at a time about the turkey bodies I saw at the store Sunday afternoon, for example, or I will start crying. Decapitated turkeys!! Dh steered me away very quickly, after we exchanged a horrified and understanding look between us, when we saw the case full of turkeys. The look said, " We have always looked at this but never before SEEN, and now we DO! " And there was a Red Lobster insert in the Sunday paper that dh tore up in disgust that read: " Gather 'round the lobster! " UGH UGH UGH... Guest guest
I always appreciate the replies within the group. Sorry I lurk. Question: I have a hand-held blender and a food processor and I'm trying to make more meals from scratch. Do you think I need a regular blender too? Can't either the hand-held or the food processor do the trick? tia, Randi
Guest guest
- Good Question - I am trying to do the same thing. But I have a small food processor and a blender/smootie maker. When a recipe says 'blend all together' I would put the ingredients in my blender/smootie maker. But sometimes the stuff doesn't blend really good. I have looked online and some of these blenders go for $300. Can someone help breakdown all the processors/blenders and the best type?? Guest guest
I like the blender because the foosd processor is too complicated for me. I think blenders are used a lot by guys, easy to operate in the kitchen.
