Guest guest
I have three children and all are being raised vegetarian. I have been a vegetarian since my early teen years and carried it on to my own children. They are almost 12, 9, and 3 and always have been vegetarian. We are not vegan so they do eat dairy products for calcium. They love cheese and milk. As for protien they eat eggs quite a bit and they just love peanut butter sandwiches. -Beverly , " lovemym8 " <lovemym8 wrote: > > That horrible story in the news sparked a new question for me. Guest guest
my boys are 5 & 10. My 5 year old is a vegetarian heck is a activist..lol he always gets on people when he sees meat it is embarrassing. My 10 year old eats ham and shrimp so he is not. we have been vegetarians for three years now so despite the information we give our 10 year old he still begs for meat. We do not make it at our home or buy it in restaurants he gets it in school or at friends homes. We get calcium from dairy, fortified breads and cereals and OJ. We get protein from TVP, beans, tofu, peanut butter, nuts the skies the limit. Get the free toolbar and rest assured with the added security of spyware protection. Guest guest
My youngest child is vegetarian, we are not vegan, we still use a little cheese and eggs, but are working towards getting there. She is vibrant and healthy. My older two eat the school lunches because we get them for free so they still eat a little meat. We dont eat any pork or other " unclean " meats as defined in the Bible because of religious beliefs. Next school year they will not be getting the free lunches so they will be complete vegetarians. Alot of people who belong to my church are vegans and their children are also vegan and have had no problems. They are the healthiest people I know, rarely ever getting sick. Obviously these parents with the baby that died were not well educated on how to care for their baby with a vegan diet. It is so sad. Arent there Soy based formulas out there? or do they contain milk products too? Cherie
Guest guest
Hahaha, I was about to state that I do not think diet is important here, obviously it is. For both vegan and vegetarian children, adequate calcium and protein are really not an issue; we have a sufficient choice of products that can ensure we obtain sufficient quantities of these nutrients. Obviously vegetarians have a slighter greater choice than vegans. What it does imply is that we should all ensure that what we eat is balanced, and that the range of products making up each meal are sufficient in quantity and variety to ensure that we get everything that we need. There should be no issue regarding protein or calcium. What I found rather interesting is the fact that the child was malnourished because of the apple juice. This simple mistake I could very easily have made myself. It simply goes to show that if we make a life-style choice, then the onus is upon us to do adequate research to ensure that what we do, no matter how good our intentions, will not result in a tragedy. And this is one of the reason why this group is so beneficial. This group not only supplies some magnificent recipes and ideas, but the wealth of knowedge within this group is there for us to tap. Guest guest
I have two boys 4 1/2 & 6 1/2 who have been vegetarian since birth. Protein & calcium come from fresh fruit, veggies and lots of (dry) bean & grains. - lovemym8 Thursday, May 10, 2007 9:00 PM How many of your children are vegetarians?? That horrible story in the news sparked a new question for me. How many of you have children who are vegetarians? How long have they been vegetarians?? I was just wondering how they get enough calcium and protein? Thank you so much!! -Sue M.
Guest guest
<< I am lacto ovo vegetarians >> What does this mean? I have three kids, the 20 year old is not at home now, but will be returning next month...he's never eaten vegetarian since he's been out of the home for a few years now and I've just recently gone vegetarian. My 18 year old and husband want their meat ( It was my 15 year old (who is now 16) that started her and I off as vegans because of the cruelty that she saw in the food industry. Her and I are currently the only ones in the house that are vegetarians. Melissa
