Guest guest
OK, I can't remember who first posted about this a month or so ago, but it came at a good time. I had some money from my tax refund to spend on some " toys " for me and I decided to buy myself the Zojirushi Fuzzy Logic Rice cooker with the Gaba Brown rice setting. It is very pricey, but I read lots of reviews and decided it was time to retire the rice cooker I got for my wedding 20 years ago (which only cooks white rice or crunchy brown rice and has an aluminum interior). WOW! I LOVE this rice cooker!! It takes a long time to make the Gaba brown rice, but it's so soft and my kids just love it. Basically, Gaba Brown is a setting. You use regular brown rice and it first soaks it and then cooks it. This process increases the protein content of the rice 1.5 times. It take about 5 hours start to finish, but I start it hours ahead. For example, I put it on last night and there was perfectly cooked brown rice this morning that my kids had for breakfast. And then I took some of it and stuffed tofu pockets to make " inari sushi " and put it in their lunch. You can see what I'm talking about here: http://veganlunchbox.blogspot.com/search?q=inari So, THANKS, to whomever it was that recommended this product! It's a real winner. :-) Sharon
Guest guest
where do you get the tofu pockets? I'll have to look for these at my oriental grocery. Guest guest
Thanks toots! (old family endearment, hope it doesn't mean anything bad in another language...) I'll have to walk down there tomorrow. I love having an Asian market so close. If I walk I don't spend so much money b/c I have to carry it back up the hill. :') Amy ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
At the time I was typing at Donna, but you gave me a good tip too, toots! So you are toots, too (or is that toots two, or toots also?) Egads, now I have a headache. Just earlier today I learned the difference between obtuse and abstruse (the latter I didn't even know was a word). But I digress, and will go quietly back and check my salting eggplant. Amy ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
I find them in the tofu section of the Asian market. They are in a clear bag. You can fill them up and have a delicious appetizer. Guest guest
Yes, Donna is right. I buy them in the refrigerated tofu section of the Japanese grocery store. (Now that basketball season is over, I will miss my weekly jaunts to Japan Town during my daughter's practice. :-) ) Most brands contain MSG but I found one brand this week that doesn't. They are quite sweet and kids love them. Sharon Donnalilacflower wrote: > I find them in the tofu section of the Asian market. > They are in a clear bag. Guest guest
Yes, I really love this thing. And it keeps the rice warm, in perfect condition for hours, even days! My kids think the brown gaba rice is great - just as yummy and soft as white rice. Guest guest
I posted about it. I love mine! It's the only way my husband and I will eat brown rice. Plus, it has the added bonus of being even more healthy because it's cooked on the GABA setting. Just for clarification, it doesn't just soak it, it soaks the rice at 104°F for about 2 hours prior to cooking the rice. Mine states that it takes about 3:10 to 3:15 for the total cook cycle. I haven't timed it to the second, but it's close to that. I like the idea of the " inari sushi " and the lunch boxes. I'm going to have to try that -- it sounds really good! Thanks for the idea. , Sharon Zakhour <sharon.zakhour wrote: > > OK, I can't remember who first posted about this a month or so ago, but > it came at a good time.
