Guest guest
This is a truly natural way to control flies and fleas on our pets... It is EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE! I was stunned! Try it for yourself! Fleas can get the best of us and our furfriends. I almost killed my cat with Flea Drops. Here's a few good cuts from pages I got off the internet for safe alternatives. No More Fleas! I'm of the belief that if I won't use it on myself I won't use it on my cat. I had a flea problem once with my seven cats. My solution was to rinse with lemon juice and water in equal amounts. Buy the concentrated RealLemon juice. During flea season, do this once a month. Citrus is a natural flea deterrent. Pour a cup of boiling water over a sliced lemon. Include the lemon skin, scored to release more citrus oil. Let this mixture soak overnight, and sponge on your pet to kill fleas instantly. - THIS METHOD IS OUR FAVORITE! Organic Flea Spray: Use a citrus dip as an effective organic flea repellent. Citrus peels contain natural chemicals, d-limonen and linalool, which both kill and repel fleas. Add the grated/chopped peel of one lemon to a pint of boiled water and steep the mixture for 24 hours. Sponge the strained liquid onto the pet's coat and let it dry. HAPPY SUMMER..... Guest guest
Thank you for this. I am going to buy some lemons and try it. Guest guest
A note of warning. I asked my daughter who's a consulting veterinarian in clinical toxicology. Here's her answer: Lemon juice is not likely to do much. Limonene and other concentrated essential oils can kill cats though. Never ever use essential oils on them. Guest guest
We were able to get rid of fleas from the home with a little vegetable oil, water, and a night light. Don't do this if you have small children, Water and electric are used and not for small fingers. Plug in a night light in a wall sockets near where the pet sleeps and in any room you have a problem On the floor just under the night light place a shallow dish with some water and a thin layer of Vegetable Oil. The night light attracts the fleas and they jump around. They jump into the water/oil pan and can't get out. You will be amazed at how many fleas you can catch. They sell these type of traps but use sticky paper instead of the water trap. But then you have to keep buying more sticky paper. Also try attracting birds to the yard. They love to eat the fleas. In the morning when we wake up we will have a small flock of finches in the dog pen just pecking away at the ground. I am sure they are cleaning up the fleas since our flea problem has lessened since we planted things to attract the birds. >I think fleas are the nastiest creatures alive. Guest guest
You can't blame your dog for a tick on you!! They fall out of the trees and land on you. Humans usually are the ones who give them to their dogs if they have dogs that are mostly inside and don't run in the woods. Same with fleas. They come into the house on humans. Guest guest
I've been reading the discussion on natural flea-free treatments for dogs and cats. This is just my humble opinion after 38 years of experience dealing with these little buggers..!!!!!! I've tried them all....everything from daily flea-picking and flea-combing; adding weekly flea baths, brewer's yeast (basically B-Complex vitamins, which supposedly the fleas don't like) garlic (same reason; you need to be careful on the amount or risk Heinz anemia in dogs), and countless other ideas. Still, when we sold our last house we had to completely replace the carpets because the fleas were jumping the prospective buyers. From literature I've read....fleas can live a long time in wait for a host....fleas spend a lot more time off your animal and hiding in carpeted areas, furniture, bedding, etc. You can have a perfectly flea-free dog, send him outside for a few minutes, and new fleas hitch a ride in. If you are concerned about a flea problem, put on a pair of white socks and walk through the area. Check your socks for little black dots. My solution: I bit the bullet many years ago and went with Revolution (or Frontline or whatever the vets are pushing). I hate the fact I am using a chemical on my dogs and cats. Me, who fervently believes in organic foods, natural cleaners, natural HBA, no Chem-Lawn, a staunch vegetarian, etc, etc. However, I realized that the small amount of the chemical is better in the long run than the fleas. No fleas in the house, no bothersome animal scratching that turns into hot spots and sores (then you have to battle those!) and the general miserableness that the animals endure. Since using Revolution, I don't even see any fleas on the dogs or cats. And, it also protects against heartworms and certain other worms. I would love it if I could use something natural, but I've tried and it doesn't work. It might be a bit pricey, but I think it's well worth it. This is all my humble opinion. I have 2 dogs and 5 cats in my flea-free home.

Me, who fervently believes in organic foods, natural cleaners, natural HBA, no Chem- Lawn, a staunch vegetarian, etc, etc.
Guest guest
Fleas can cause tapeworm in your animals. They need to be controlled any way possible. I always use Advantage as it also kills the fleas in the carpet. Fleas can live in carpets for a couple of years or more without a host animal. Guest guest
We put a few drops of tea tree oil on the dog's collar. When the fleas are really bad, we shake Borax around on the carpet, let it sit for an hour and vacuum it up. One IMPORTANT note is that for YEARS, we were told that our dog had a flea allergy and nothing worked on him. Turns out, he had yeast on his skin (abundant in pet food and the environment). I bathed him with anti-fungal shampoo and started him on a regimine of probiotics...he is PERFECTLY fine now. The reason vets are so quick to say its flea allergy, is because yeast problems are relatively unknown and are somewhat hard to treat. Yeast is aggrevated by warm weather and when is flea season? I just knew something wasn't right when the vet was saying all it takes is one flea...yeah, thats makes his entire body red, inflamed and the odor...whew...take a look at this page and see if the pics look identical to your pet's " flea allergy " ...... http://www.nzymes.com/Articles/Instructions_for_systemic_yeast_infections.htm?OV\ RAW=YEAST%20INFECTION%20ON%20NECK & OVKEY=dog%20yeast%20infection & OVMTC=advanced & O\ VADID=1977634511 & OVKWID=3872782011#Yeast_symptoms_checklist Stephanie Choose the right car based on your needs. Guest guest
I also use garlic. He also takes some extra vitamin E for his skin and allergies. He isn't red or anything...he just gets real itchy and and then he gets an ear infection when his allergies are kicking. I use Advantage since it seems to work better than Frontline for him, but really would like something natural. I have noticed that his allergies are better this year since I switched him over to Blue Buffalo and Eagle Pack Holistic food. He loves them but wouldn't eat the veggie dog food. Guest guest
Garlic is o.k. for dogs but NEVER give it to cats - my vet told me that they can't digest it and it will eventually make them sick....
