Guest guest
Fresh Figs with Orange, Ginger Sauce Figs are such a delicious treat when they are in season. This healthy dessert recipe gives you an unusual and delicious way of enjoying them with very little effort, and no added sugar. The spicy orange sauce is a perfect complement to this healthy summer fruit. Prep and Cook Time: 5 minutes, cooking time: 20 minutes Ingredients: 12 fresh Figs 1 TBS chopped fresh ginger 1 star anise 1 cup fresh orange juice Directions: Simmer orange juice, ginger, and star anise together on high heat for 20 minutes, reducing volume to about half. Strain sauce, discarding all but liquid. While sauce is reducing, cut figs in half from stem to stem. Drizzle sauce over figs. If desired, sauce can be chilled before serving with figs. Serves 4 Healthy Cooking Tips: You want the sauce to be the consistency of light syrup when done. Check the taste as it reduces. If it does not reduce long enough it will taste weak and flat, and it won't coat the figs. It will actually get thicker as it cools if you decide to serve it cold. Be a better Globetrotter. Guest guest
Is there a difference between using purple or brown figs? I have access to a HUMONGOUS fig tree w/ brown figs, but the ones I (rarely) see in the store are purple. NIF
Guest guest
I'm a fig fanatic and I use either when I cook. I even use dried ones and rehydrate them. Donna --- " J.C. Guest guest
They are delicious and very expensive most of the time. I think it's because birds grab them first. This is what I hear. I have a middle eastern market near and they have a great price and the dried ones work too. I love dates and figs. Guest guest
I love fresh figs. Wish my fig trees were doing better this year. This drought has about killed them.
