Guest guest
I started down the path to being vegeterian recently by just dropping all m**ts from my diet(started this about 5/14). Did not really know how to do this or what if anything I needed to do differently. Picked up the book Eat To Live " and gosh it all really makes sense to me. Monday I started the 6 wk plan w/o dairy, eggs, limited starchy breads and veges.... This will definately be more difficult for me to stay on program. I dropped the M**ts for other issues but since reading this book I am convinced that it is necessary for health issues. I need to lose about 60 pounds, have high blood pressure and now high cholesterol and borderline on my blood sugar. I have 2 boys under the age of 12 and a DH that still want/need my off limit foods (my 8 yr old is is barely 50 pounds and skinny). After reading this book, it really makes it hard to continue letting them eat many foods that I allowed in the past. I'm not sure how to supplement to them @ this time yet keep them healthy too. Any tips or success stories would be greatly appreciated regarding avoiding those breads, dairy... for the next 6 weeks or working on getting better food into my children. Also what are YOUR favorite magazines or books on the vegetarian cooking/health. Thanks! Valerie
Guest guest
Hi Valerie, Welcome! I am also an ETL'er! While most of us here are vegetarians or vegans, I don't know that you'll find a lot of ETL'ers here. You might want to check out the Eat-To-Live forum for that. I strongly suggest you check out " Disease Proof Your Child " also by Dr Fuhrman. That book is good for everyone, not just parents. :-) Good luck! Guest guest
My brother n law and family (twin boys age 2 and one boy age 3) went on the eat to live 2 years ago. They all look great and the boys are extremly healthy looking. These kids started on this lifestyle right at birth so it is very easy for them. These kids NEVER have eaten any processed foods or surgery foods. Everything is natural that goes in all there bodies. My sister n law started the diet back in January and has lost 140 pounds (down from (400). You have to be strict and dicsiplined. Anyhow, I have seen the success stories on my family and they are woderful. I also have an 8 year...almost 9 that is barely 50 pounds. The doctor told me to put him on high carbs and sugur. I dont believe in that either. He is NOT a big eater. Good luck on the Eat to Live lifestyle. Guest guest
I just ordered the book - hoping it will help me!! Guest guest
Yowza, so impressive, Denise! Good for them! I started the program in January and have lost 40 lbs. I had lost weight in the preceding year, just by joining this group and cooking more and using more whole grains. That was a nice surprise! So my overall weight loss has been 77 lbs. But even better, my type 2 diabetes is reversing itself, without meds. My cholesterol has come down. My blood pressure has come down. My acid reflux is gone. My rosacea is virtually gone. My depression is gone (so far as I can tell). My various symptoms of diabetes are all improved. Now I'm working on my thyroid levels, which haven't improved by the eating/walking. It's a rather extreme way of eating, but I needed an extreme solution. So yum yum, bring on the kale smoothies. :-) (I calculated the iron content in my vegan smoothie this morning, and it was at least 10mg of iron!) I so wish I had found this way of eating when my kids were little!!! Sharon (P.S. Did your sister in law actually lose 140 pounds in 6 months?!?!) Guest guest
Wow - nice results! I only had about 6 weeks prior as being a vegetarian but I did not loose any weight (too much bread, pasta, dressings). I wish I had someone to make me a kale smoothie to try - I'm afraid just the name makes me want to say " yuck " though LOL! I'm sure I will be trying lots of new dishes soon. The recipe database is WONDERFUL! Thinking I am going to just have to convert the kids. I don't let them do other things that I disapprove of - why should their main meals be any different??!! They enjoy many dishes already (pasta, beans, eggplant...) so maybe they won't even notice?? Hmmm.... thanks for the support. Guest guest
I agree - I love Kale but I can't see it in a smoothie with sweet stuff LOL I could maybe see it in a cold soup but not a cold smoothie LOL On 6/26/07, Valerie <bvwagner wrote: > > I wish I had someone to make me a kale smoothie to try - > I'm afraid just the name makes me want to say " yuck " though LOL! > -- Nicole W. Guest guest
They will notice, but if they like what you are serving them, why should they complain. Good luck and good cooking. Guest guest
No, don't be alarmed. A green smoothie is a fruit smoothie with greens added. It _tastes_ like fruit, but has the color of the greens and is packed with nutrition! Guest guest
I put kale in my juice everyday. But, the thought of it in a smoothie makes me want to say " yuck " also. But....different strokes, etc. I tried cooking kale and hated it. So, juicing it works for me. Sue ---- Valerie 6/26/2007 5:54:55 PM Re: Eat to Live 6 wk beginner plan Wow - nice results!
