Me too which is one of the reasons the Garden Burger ribs just didn't cut it for me. Real ribs aren't rubbery. Meat loaf was something I also missed a lot and lentil/rice/bean loaves (outside of Morningstar's Nine Bean Loaf) just tasted too beany to me. After much trial and error, I finally came up with a pretty good substitute that I make quite often. Great cold for sandwiches. Guest guest
Hot dogs, bologna and all those used to really gross me out. I never really craved anything. About the only thing I really remember is my Gran made the best Swedish meatballs but it was the gravy in the center of my mashed potartoes that I loved the best, never longed for the meatballs. I make Swedish meatballs now with the alternative ones about once or twice a year. Donna --- Sue <kup wrote: > I was not a big fan of hot dogs. Guest guest
There are two things I just can not duplicate - hot wings and the bone-in ribs. I do like the Gardenburger riblets, but there's something about the experience of a rack of ribs that you just can't duplicate. I'm almost over that though. As far as the hot dog issue goes, my son forgets that the Morningstar Farms soy dogs aren't meat. The only thing I don't like is that they're frozen in a chunk so you either have to eat a bunch of hot dogs in 2 days or figure out a way to break them apart. I tried some other brand that our Walmart carries that's only refrigerated, but I didn't like the texture as much - they didn't have that texture that hot dogs and the MF soy dogs have. There's a pretty decent vegetarian substitute for pepperoni made by Lightlife foods if you haven't already tried it. All this hot dog talk got me craving them so I just had two Yves hot dogs and they weren't bad at all. Slightly rubbery, but the taste was right. Now I can go another year until I have them again. Just the fact that they only have 5o calories and half a gram of fat each made them taste even better. TM TM ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. At the children's home, we buy dogs in 25lb. boxes and they're all frozen together. We've found that if you pick the whole, unopened box up and slam it on the counter or the floor (walk-in freezers rule *G*), the dogs just pop apart and you can get what you need quickly. Guest guest
Hot Dog! Try the hot dogs from Lightlife: http://www.lightlife.com/smartdogs.html They come packaged just like the evil ones but taste a whole lot better. Don the Vegan and Chloe T.
