Guest guest
Just a reminder that 'lard' is the rendered fat of hogs/pigs so of course it is not Vegetarian. You have to read the labels carefully to make sure that the products you buy do not contain lard. And note that imported food items do not always list 'all' ingredients. Some just state " seasonings, spices, etc " Deanna in Colordo
Guest guest
Thanks Deanna - I didn't mean to mislead anyone about lard - I was just trying to suggest a vegetarian substitute for Douglas and explain to Donna what a buttery was. It's funny what one gets used to in terms of food labelling. When I was still eating dairy I avoided eating Haagen-Dasz or Ben and Jerry's because I thought the labelling unclear and I wasn't really sure they were vegetarian. I won't eat anything unless it's specifically labelled as suitable for vegetarians. Guest guest
-Christie, You certainly did not mis-lead anyone. I just thought it a good time to remind some of the younger-newer to Vegetarianism that lard is an animal product. I have noticed often that some product ingredients state " flavors,et. " and we have no idea what that might be. I still consume some dairy on occasion but find it difficult to tolerate unless in a disguised recipe..LOL Make a rewarding , peaceful day Deanna in Colorado +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ - In , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > Thanks Deanna - I didn't mean to mislead anyone about lard - I was > just trying to suggest a vegetarian substitute for Douglas and explain > to Donna what a buttery was. > > It's funny what one gets used to in terms of food labelling. Guest guest
And those refrigerated folded pie crust in the box have lard in them also. Most frozen ones do also, unless they specify on the package that they are made from vegetable shortening. Judy >I can't tell you how many vegetarians I know who will eat Jiffy cornbread mix and never read the label to see it contains lard.
