Guest guest
We are having a huge problem with yellow jackets that swarm my cats wet food dish. Any ideas from anyone on how we can get rid of them in that area. This is the first year that we have ever had this problem and it is unnerving to the animals. We can't feed them inside because the boy cats immediately look for something to mark as soon as they enter the house. They are fixed but that hasn't prevented them from doing this unfortunately. Thanks, Judy
Guest guest
I can relate to that as we had honey bees in our house several years ago. My dog still freaks out when any kind of bug flies past her. We called a bee keeper who took them all away. But, yellow jackets are another story. A search found these " tricks " on Garden Web: http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bees/msg0214121831932.html Good luck......I like the idea of the upside down bucket. But, what do I know? Guest guest
Judy, I would try the same sort of thing to keep insects of veggies. Mix up a few drops of dish soap, water, garlic and cayenne. and then strain, put in spray bottle and spray area. Don't mix too thoroughly or you will get a lot of suds. Guest guest
after weeks of repeatedly knocking down the beginnings of a nest I got one of those Raid Yellow Jacket traps and hung it a few inches from the 2 places the yellowjackets kept trying to build, finally got rid of them!! If all else fails get a kids tent that zips shut just for feeding the cats in. when the bugs are gone you can leave it up and open for the kitties to shelter in. wwjd <jtwigg wrote: We are having a huge problem with yellow jackets that swarm my cats wet food dish. Guest guest
Hi Judy. Your post title caught my eye. Here in Southern Oregon at this time of year we have the same troubles with yellow jackets. They tend to be really drawn to meat, which is probably why they go straight for the cat food dish, since cats are mostly carnivorous creatures by nature. When we would go camping with our omnivore friends, they would bring along some scented dryer sheets, like BOUNCE or some other brands. They would use duct tape to tape them around the edge of the campground dining tent area, and it seemed to really help. Also placing a plate of food [meaty food] outside the camp area just for the yellow jackets, so they would be busy with that while the cats eat in peace. Hope it helps. ~ PT ~ All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope. ~ Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965) ~~~*~~~*~~~*~~~> , " wwjd " <jtwigg wrote: > > We are having a huge problem with yellow jackets that swarm my cats wet food > dish.
