Guest guest
plenty can be done about the weight gain. like i said in a previous email, i'd much rather have the weight gain because that's something that can be taken care of with willpower and determination and a healthy diet (and medical help if necessary and needed). you can't exactly get shed heart disease like a lot of pounds once you have it. Why pollute your body with that crap anyway? The body is something God gave us to cherish, not to trash with cigarette smoking or other abuses. I mean isn't that one of the reasons why many of us went vegetarian, to eat healthier and take care of our bodies? Why negate all the good benefits with something else that is clearly unhealthy? Benefits of weight supression not withstanding. Plus, do you really want emphysema, C.O.P.D., and coal miner lungs later in life? Link to a site about it included (http://www.presmark.com/htmlfile/pictures.htm). Guest guest
I have the most addictive behaviors though. I started smoking when I was 13 years old but I wasn't smoking a whole lot back then. Just stealing ciggies from my dad. Parents were upset when they found out but they learned to live with it. As I mentioned before, my dad is a smoker but my mom isn't. He said he'd quit smoking after he married my mother but it never happened. He has quit or weened himself off of that but he goes back to how he was before. I know second hand smoke is bad but there's two smokers in my house and no non smokers. Just me and my bf. My mom hates it when I smoke in her van but I do it when I'm with her. My dad does the same thing. Like when he takes her van, he'll just smoke in it. He probably does it more than I do now but I know it's still not good. I just can't control my cravings for tobacco. It's like an alcoholic who can't control their cravings for alcohol. I have been there as well. Not a sympathetic response, I agree ;=( but, you know, I really do wonder at people who continue with something they know is bad for them - whether it is an activity, certain foods, an addiction, a relationship. *And* when they argue against good advice (and Jessika has had some excellent advise here!), then I really wonder ;=) Self-induced victimhood? However, right now I choose to believe that illness is causing this particular irrational behaviour - that and needing nicotine because of being unable to smoke due to coughing - and I wish you well, Jessika, truly well so that you won't be coughing anymore and will be able to look after your future health. If it's of any value to you, I too was a smoker - and I stopped smoking more than twenty years ago. Guest guest
My mother didn't dump my father for his smoking habbit. I guess it's because she loves him but she was never a smoker to begin with. My bfs comes from a family of non smokers too. He's the only smoker in his family so when we're over at his parents house, they make us go outside to smoke. When I was in the hospital, they let us go out for smoke breaks. I saw doctors smoking. You'd think that those people would be more concious of their health. I say if a person wants to stop smoking then it's up to them. If not then it's their choice. Guest guest
He's been there for me and he takes care of me. I'm not letting anyone talk me out of ending my relationship. My parents have been trying to do that because sometimes I feel like they hate me. But they can be pretty nice to him when he's around. I love him more than anything and he has saved me from myself millions of times. I'm not dropping him for anything. Guest guest
I am responding to the many emails regarding smoking, and just wanted to offer some more support to Tone. I started smoking when I was 12 and quit when I was 29. I was able to quit just once and never go back. I thought about telling you my story but this isn't about me and " how I did it " , it's about you and what you need to quit. I think you know that whatever it is you need in order to quit isn't in your life yet. And you said you felt that you were coming to it sometime. I heard so many lectures and had people implore me to quit so many times...but I kept smoking until the tides turned for me. The tides will turn for you, too, Tone. Bless you, you are loved. -Barbara
Guest guest
...........and every single day toss your cigarette money in a stash box and treat yourself with the savings each month. You'd be surprised how many treasures you will collect. Be it CD's, cookbooks, a pair of shoes, have something to show for the $$$ and improve your health at the same time. Guest guest
Exercise can help, if you could do any air breathing Cardiovascular exercises for 45 minutes to 1 hour per day. when your lungs expand, you crave less and less to smoke. And you'll start to really feel the different when you breath. hopefully your craving of cigarettes will distract by itself. I started running 5 miles per day 4 years ago, and quited smoking since. Never crave for one anymore... oneSearch: Finally, mobile search that gives answers, not web links.
