Guest guest
When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind. --J. Krishnamurti. An interesting statement, but I have to disagree. Muslim and Christian are words which define what people believe - they are applied by people because it's easier in conversation than reading the whole of the bible or koran to define your spiritual path. Indian and European are definitions of where people come from - again, particularly useful when it comes to e-mail conversation. I can't help thinking of that other great phrase " it takes one to know one " - in other words, maybe those who have violent tendencies see causes of violence where there are none! Guest guest
I see what you are saying, but I disagree on some level. I'm female, doesn't mean being male is wrong. I'm half Polish and half Lithuaninan and proud of my heritage. I'm vegan and have nothing to hide. I'm Pagan and Wiccan and don't look down on any other beliefs. I'm right-handed, my best friend and cousin is left- handed, neither of us can write any better than the other. I am not from a mold, I am who I am. And it is my distinctions that make up my personality. When you do not " be who you are " , you lose your identity. And I have nothing to be ashamed of. This is a fine gray area. I see what you are saying, but I disagree. I am not seperating myself in the way that I am better, worse, smarter, richer, poorer etc. I am human. But I am me. And my face has features that no one else has exactly like me. My fingerprints are unique as is my aura. I have to be me and no one else. No one can be me for me and I would never ask them to. If we are all started as blank slates and remained that way, what a boring world this would be. I embrace and celebrate everyone's differences. It's what makes them unique. And I believe that the fact that you disagree with me does not make you violent. Do you? Guest guest
Yes buy surely there has to be a little bit of room for individualism. I am what I am and as long as I dont expect anybody to be the same as me or resent anyone who is different then what is wrong with that. My religion (or lack of it in my case) and my nationality are a part of what I am and have helped to form my views and my personality. To deny them would be like denying my parents and siblings but I dont need the rest of you to have or appreciate my family or my beliefs. Guest guest
Well put Nikki The only way we may possible be the same is to be dead and disintigrated - although I suspect our 'compost' would vary in mineral ratios. I too enjoy people's differences, and they are something for everyone to celebrate. Guest guest
Ya know, I think a lot of " philosophers " get a little carried away with themselves. In no way, size, shape or form does identifying yourself with your ethnicity or religion meet any defintion of violent. HOWEVER, the constructs of this guy's ramble DO meet the definition of violent " tending to distort the meaning (to put a violent construction on a text). I'm thinking someone needs to look inward before projecting outward. Guest guest
I like the " philosophers getting carried away " part. usually I have an image of them meditating and being humble. ha! ha! what this guy said is easier said than done. some people are their cultures, and can't be separated I have been called a tree hugger, by a coworker. just by talking to me for one day. I say vive la differance, as long as those differences don't cause any harm. but I think what this philospher was trying to say something a la John lennon, you know, we are the world, imagine all the people living life as one, sort of thing. I think Rick Stevens, just posts, I dont't remember him chatting , " Lynda " <lurine@s...> wrote: > Ya know, I think a lot of " philosophers " get a little carried away with > themselves. Guest guest
I would prefer to be in peace with God and call myself a Christian. Being a Christian for me it does not mean I would be against any human beings, who are not Christians. I would prefer to see all people as the picture of the living God, independent from if they are Christians or not. About Christianism: It is not a religion at all. It is the revelation of God and there are evidences for that. I see you as the picture of God and as a friend, J. Guest guest
I have made a mistake and I want to amend it here: This is the Vegan Chat , not the other one: Christian Vegan Cooking, I am a member, too. And being a Christian or anything else, we should be ok to each other and respect each other. If a Moslem or a Hindu or someone else is telling me: I am this or that, I respect him/her. I don't say he/she is offending me. I am waiting for the same, if I would travel to India or anywhere else.
