Guest guest
Do you also get chocolate flavoured lettuce through doing that :-) Jo Copper tape is fine for pots, but not practical or financialy viable for a garden ( no matter how much old wire you strip down!). I mistakenly put down a mulch of cocoa shells under the impression that the blighters wouldnt like it. Unfortunately when wet it goes all soft, and starts to slowly rot - perfect for slugs, and since we have two types of weather here - wet and not so wet, they must giggling like mad! - still the plants will be happy before being devoured. How green was my The valley vegan..........

Guest guest
It is - although I think I prefer lettuce-flavoured lettuces :-) and chocolate separate. Guest guest
A smidge of amonia in a spray bottle of water will do it too. I saved about 2000 of my FIL's hosta. and he had SCADS of slugs. Amy F
Guest guest
Have you tried making a border with lava rocks? It's not the easiest or cheapest solution, but so far it's kept them out of our house. Guest guest
D.E. works well for deterring slugs...it cuts up the goo on their bellies and they dehydrate. Also works great for worming sheep. http://www.gardenharvestsupply.com/product/diatomaceous-earth-de-food-grade Tameson As an aside, my chickens love to eat eggshells so using them to deter birds from freshly planted seeds seems counterintuitive to me. Guest guest
Thanks for all the suggestions. Believe me, I've tried them all: sharp gravel, egg shells, copper rings, diatomaceous earth, copper mesh, beer traps, ashes... The reality of slugs is that they travel on a trail of slime that coats sharp edges and they glide over them. I've watched them do it. But I appreciate everyone's concern for my garden. : - ) ~ irene
