I'm a couple hours west of you in Bastrop. And yes,

it is cold and wet here too! I'm stuck inside with

two small and very active kids, one of which really

needs to play outside as much as possible.

I love making presents. I'm making a cookbook for my

stepdaughter...Its a lot of fun. I've been crocheting

an afghan for a month and a half now (and am only half

way through) for my MIL. I do hope I can finish in

time...Not only is it huge but uses the smallest

stitches. Oh well, it will be gorgeous.

Warmly,

Allison

Genie, I'll take this cold rain over our notorious Houston heat and humidity

anyday.

There they clearly state that animals are NOT used to make the glue,

instead they use more dead dinosaurs.

As far as dogs chewing on things other than raw hides, yes it is

possible. However, for my very aggressive chewers, it is a raw hide or

a stick, and I prefer the leather option. At least his gut is adapted

to eating animals other than dinosaurs. I have made homemade treats

for him, he does like them, but they are not very long lasting, maybe a

couple of seconds, so don't do much to keep him busy. I at least know

what is in those treats as opposed to the ones you can buy. I do still

buy some, for cooercing the foster dogs into crates and basic obediance

with them, but I try to limit them to my dog due to his allergies.

Allison, where abouts in Texas are you? Have I asked that before? I'm

near Houston and it is sooo cold and rainy today! I can't wait to move

to a place with snow and not this miserable cold rain. I am going to

try to keep cleaning my house today and orgainze my life. I need to

make Christmas pressents for the family and friends... Hope my sewing

machine works...

I have just emailed the group that overseas organic farming in the

U.S.A. to ask if they consider it acceptable that their producers

affix stickers to peaches which most likely leave an animal based

residue on my fruit. I pointed out that I was vegan and look forward

to their reply. I am now going to contact people who package vegan

products in cartons that require a glue based product to seal them,

such as soy milk. When you remove the seal you are required to pour

the product over the glue residue. I dont like this. I am one of those

people who cringe when I see people licking stamps and envelopes.

I have to say that I did not know that the stamps and envelope glue

over there were not animal based. I simply assumed that they were.

(the episode of seinfeld where she died from licking envelopes did not

influence me) I have contacted 2 companies today re their products

(and will get round to more)and hope that this practice is widespread

and they all tell me the same thing NO ANIMALS in our glue.

animal based glues, at least here, is sorta a thing of the past... fer the time being anyways

most are either plant er petroleum based....

they still make some animal glues..but, i think they decided it was easier selling the rendered animal bits as animal protein....which is just as ick... Hi Mary

I think that most of the stickers, and stamps, don't use animal glue

anymore.

They certainly do - I usually dabble my fingers in water and transfer the

water to the back of the stamp.

Does anyone know if Elmer's or any other craft glue is vegan or not?

I often make Crafts/Art Projects, with my kiddies and have wondered

about this.

my kids call stamps, stickers.

but hardly anyone uses them anymore, cause people don't write letters

that often, and pay their bills online...

They do not use animals according to their site. I went to

www.elmers.com, then clicked on FAQ and it said:

Do you use animals when making glue?

No, Elmer's does not use animals or animal parts to make glue. Our

products are made from synthetic materials and are not derived from

processing horses, cows or any other animals.
