Guest guest
depends yer likely to get laughed out of a reservation if you mention such a thing " my great grandmother was a cherokee princess " on their side...its a derougatory term.....generally meant to signify a woman who " hung around the fort " if you will...in nice terms, someone who assimilated into american culture...in less nice terms, a prostitute from the other side....it could have been a way to, ummm...couch a certain relationship.... racism runs deep and is hard to root out much easier fer son to bring home an indian wife if he can call her a cherokee princess...that somehow bestows at least some sort of *honor* in that mindsets eyes sad no? Guest guest
Would this be a prostitute that had only 'other' clients or just a general prostitute. I guess what I am trying to ask is, were the 'fort' prostitutes looked on more badly than 'normal' prostitutes? Yes - it is all sad. Guest guest
There was no prostitution in the American Indian culture. Totally new concept and only occured " around the forts. " By the time hang around the fort Indians occured, the majority of the Indians hated the whiteman and by extension those that were called " hang around the fort " Indians.
