Guest guest
I'd say the problem is reception. Folks have to be sensitive to and receptive to ghosts. I worked an ex-offenders program and went into the gladiator schools as they are called (Quentin, Folsom, etc.) and I can't picture the folks I met a) believing in ghosts, b) being receptive to contact from a ghost. The places may indeed be haunted but no one is paying attention. As to hospital ERs, they don't make good stories for TV. At least, not modern working hospitals. Some very old hospitals have been on those types of shows. Hospitals are too bright, too husy and so are the people. We've had our share. The last house had at least three. One liked to pull the knobs off the stove and toss them across the kitchen and into the diningroom. We called her Martha. There was also a man and the dogs didn't like it when he was around. And a young woman. She liked to open drawers and hide keys under a " secret " hidey hole stair that you had to use a screwdriver to open. Sonoma County has quite a few. You can go out and listen to a gun fight in a field off Crane Canyon Road just before it gets to Sonoma Mountain Road. Also the old Shakleton place next door to the Safeway on Fourth Street. Of course, Sonoma County has lots of weird stuff like Gravity Hill where you can put your car in neutral and roll up hill <g> It's been on television a few times. Guest guest
Hi Fraggle Most Haunted - It's a show I do like to watch, but I don't really know why. What you say is so true. Most Haunted have gone to a few unromantic places though - like Derby Gaol, and some place under a bridge where all the poor people lived, and died. I agree with you though that mostly people in inns would be happy, so there shouldn't be too many misplaced spirits (sorry about that). Have you seen the Most Haunted Live programmes. There was one on for three evenings - 9 until midnight - the last day of it was the Solstice. For once Yvette was so frightened she couldn't scream and swear. I actually felt sorry for her that time :-) BB Jo - " fraggle " <EBbrewpunx Saturday, June 25, 2005 4:04 AM most haunted > you english types have the best ghost/haunted places shows... > hee hee...watching some show called " most haunted " ...seen several episides tonite > great fun watchin them scare the bejeebers out of each other in the dark > > i do have to wonder tho > hauntings always happen at some old inn...a lonely stretch of road...a bar...etc..at least in our culture > now...this plays up to our desire fer hauntings to be at these places..it fits our mindset... > yet, ghosts and all that, are generally supposed to be tragic figures... > fer pure horror and misery..shouldn't prisons and emergency rooms be the most haunted places? > i'm not talkin alcatraz, which is old and decrepid...i'm talkin a modern maximum security prison, where folks get shanked, beaten, raped, and eat sleep and die behind its sterile walls... > and..sheesh..an emergency room...how many *tragic* souls pass thru its corridors? > yet...they don't fit our romantic vision of a " haunted place " .. > just thinkin out loud > > apparantly i need to go get a beer > > cheers > fraggle > > > " God was my co-pilot, but we crashed in the Andes and I had to eat him. Guest guest
Most Haunted , generally makes me laugh, yet I do occaissionally watch it. The medium they take with them ( Derreck I think his name is ) is one of the best showmen on the telly, especially when he gets "possessed". They have taken other mediums out, but none that I have seen come close to him. He sure puts on a good show. I just can`t take it seriously,......but then I dont take much else seriously either! Enjoyed the last Dr Who episode, though for the life of me I cant figure out why!, sure wasnt the paper thin story, must have been the performances, they were great. Guest guest
I think Derek has some talents, such as psychometry, but he does put it on in MH. I like David Wells - he seems much more knowledgeable to me, but maybe that's because he is a Pagan. He is at Witchfest this year, so I will be seeing him there. Dr Who was good. Apparently, and unfortunately, Captain Jack is back next season. Guest guest
Well, then one should invite them over for the annual Halloween seance. Lots of photos are about showing glowing orbs and what have you. There are also recordings of " voices " and " noises " that shouldn't be there when no one is in the house. Of course <<eg>> if one were to turn a camera crew loose in there without a guide they might never find their way out again! So, what is there criteria if Winchester House wouldn't fit? Guest guest
One of the hospitals I worked at would be fun to haunt. Full basement with flickering lights and an old coal shoot. PLUS, upstairs in the boarded off section were the padded rooms where electric shock treatments were done or folks were tied up in the straight jackets and left to scream. Guest guest
Very true - I hadn't thought of it that way - I think I'd go for a heavy metla venue :-) Jo > Hi Fraggle > > > and..sheesh..an emergency room...how many *tragic* souls pass thru its > corridors? > > yet...they don't fit our romantic vision of a " haunted place " .. > > just thinkin out loud > > Yeah... but would you want to haunt an emergency ward, or a spooky old > castle? Guest guest
On one of the live ones where they were talking to the spirits of 'witches' they kept saying that, but didn't go. In the end they all ended up passing out and strange things happening. And now they say 'Do you want us to help you?' - now I may be strange but somehow I just don't think they would be capable of helping, and even if they were it wouldn't please Richard Felix (or is it Phoenix) who runs a spooky tours business. Guest guest
I think that is true. There are many people who are receptive. I just wish with Most Haunted that they had some 'game plan'. Guest guest
When Most Haunted first started they were more serious about it, and they did have some orbs caught on camera. There were some that looked like moths and spiders, but there were some that were most likely to be orbs. The programme seems to have evolved into something a little more silly. It is very popular though, particularly the live ones. Jo > Well, then one should invite them over for the annual Halloween seance. > Lots of photos are about showing glowing orbs and what have you. Guest guest
Well, they need to come on over and do the Winchester House. http://www.winchestermysteryhouse.com/story.html Stairs that end at walls, 13 is repeated throughout, doors that open onto nothing, doors that open onto walls, carpenters that worked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for 38 years because she thought that as long as they kept building she wouldn't die (to ward off the evil spirits of those killed by the family gun, the Winchester rifle), 160 rooms. Guess maybe they need to be invited over!
