Guest guest
That's a good idea - after all, we are Vegan ~Chat~ :-) On the subject of books I have only recently started reading fiction in any quantity. Most of my life I have read books to learn about a subject. I must read Harry Potter as I haven't read any of them yet, and PG Wodehouse, and Terry Pratchett - then I can join in the conversations with Colin and Peter :-) BBJo - Peter Wednesday, July 20, 2005 7:14 PM New posters... Hi folks It's nice to see a whole load of new members launching in with discussion... was just wondering if those new folks would like to say a little about themselves... how long have you been vegan (or are you looking for info to help you turn vegan)? Which parts of the world are you from? How about expanding the recent topics on list, and letting us know what sort of music and books you like? Anything else you think might be of interest? I always find e-mail a bit "faceless", and think it would be nice to know a little bit about the people behind the e-mail addresses! :-) BB Peter

Guest guest
I can't complain about where I work actually. There is a lake (swans, ducks, geese, coots and moorhens) with weeping willows, grass and fragrant bushes - benches to sit on. The trouble is I don't like sitting in the sun. Guest guest
I'd really like to know why power companies always choose to do repairs in the hottest part of the summer. Oh, and do they do it during the day when folks are either not at home or could go somewhere to get cooler? Nooooo! They do it in the middle of the night and the fans go off (we don't use air conditioning at night)and of course it is the only night without a breeze and when the power comes back on you have to run around and set clocks and reset freezers that have alarms on them and prime the fish tank cleaner because it doesn't restart itself. Guest guest
It's always the way. At work last year the air-conditioning apparently wasn't made to work in temperatures as high as we had - so shut down and didn't work for three days! Guest guest
I remember a couple of years ago in Santa Rosa, California, the city blocked off an intersection right in front of the mall to do some work - two days before Christmas. Guest guest
I was working at a law firm in Spokane, WA a couple of years ago during a really hot summer (for Spokane, anyway.) They were having problems with the air conditioning and someone was in working on it. I'm not sure what precipitated it, but I heard another intern (who had a serious attitude problem in everything she did) snipe at the worker; something along the lines of " blue collar scum. " It strikes me as a really bad idea to insult an air-conditioning repairman in 98 degree heat. Guest guest
O.K., what other city in the whole world has a street with a lane that gives you a choice of zigging or running into a light pole? What other city has a department manager that routinely drinks recycled sewer water on television? And you were surprised that they would do something else equally stupid? Lynda, who used to work for the City of Santa Rosa and knows that in many instances they are much dumber than any of the residents will ever know! - " Anna Blaine " <anna333 Friday, July 22, 2005 8:34 PM Re: Re: New posters... > I remember a couple of years ago in Santa Rosa, California, the city > blocked off an intersection right in front of the mall to do some work - > two days before Christmas. Also recommend Robert Rankin to all UK members who like a laugh ( dont think it would travel well ). Not very cerebral am I? Am I bothered? Do I look bothered? Some silly vicar here said it was disgraceful that a school was encouranging the children to have a Harry Potter party. Strange thing, as I thought it was now illegal here to incite religious hatred. Some silly vicar here said it was disgraceful that a school was encouranging > the children to have a Harry Potter party. Strange thing, as I thought it was now illegal here to incite religious hatred. It's not yet.... apparently a lot of "comedians" are complaining about the possibility of it becoming law, as it might ruin their acts!!! Guest guest
Ah yes - Rowan Atkinson is leading that isn't he. I wonder if he campaigns for anything else. Guest guest
I agree, I started developing my love of reading when I was at a young age. Now DH on the other hand hates to read due to an undiagnosed reading disability when he was young. So I started reading books to my son when he was still a baby. Hoping that would spark an interest early on. So far, so good. Guest guest
Tis not even the worst part, they are not even teacing it. Just writing a fantasy book. If it borders on some truth, so be it. But they ban this one only because it is popular, yet there are so many other books out there on this realm. I think the problem is because the witches here are all good guys for the most part. Someone children can relate to them as opposed to the Disney stories where the witches are all evil and die in the end.
