I have ignored berries for a long time. Presently as they are in

season berries are well priced. Can berries be frozen for preservation

? For how long ? Please share your info./experience/recipes with berries.

Thanks in advance

I don't have personal experience freezing berries, but I've seen frozen

black and raspberries in the store so I know it's possible.

I adore berries. I can't get enough of them, but I prefer them fresh.

Love,

Anna

Berries can be frozen. I recommend one of two methods. 1) lay them out on

a tray and freeze them, then bag them; 2) the best way, lay them out on a

tray and freeze them and then use something like seal-a-meal.

Since they don't last all that long around here, on a real good berrying

year they last at least 6 months.

BTW, if you use the freeze as individual berries and then use a seal-a-meal,

you don't get all the crystals and then when making pies you don't end up

with soup.

Berries are very healthy - quite a superfood. I like them either raw,

or added to apples for a crumble or pie. You can also juice them with

other fruits and veg, or whizz them into a drink.

Hi Vijay

We freeze most of the strawberries from our garden. Simply wash them,

cut off the stems and then put in a bag to freeze. You can even slice

them beforehand if you want.

They are not the best for thawing and eating whole, because they do

tend to become soft when de-frosted. But we use them for preserves or

even just heat them a bit and they are a great topping for waffles,

pancakes, ice cream (soy, of course), cakes etc.

I've never frozen any other berries, but would have to think they fall

along the same guidelines.

Wash the berries and then place them on paper towels. They need to be totally dry before you freeze them. I have one of those devices that sucks the air out of the bowls before I put them in the freezer and that works really well.
