PETA Halts Campaign Against Benetton

After nearly a year of vigorous campaigning to urge Benetton not to use wool that comes from Australian lambs subjected to the

“mulesing” mutilation and live sheep exported overseas in horrific conditions, the international retail giant has announced that it is backing the landmark agreement between the Australian Wool Growers Association (AWGA) and PETA that has led to a new brand of wool. The new brand comes from farmers who are part of a structured plan to end mulesing and live exports. In Benetton’s letter to the AWGA, the company agreed to buy this new brand of wool and urged “the entire Australian wool industry” to adopt the agreement, which will end the two cruelest practices in Australian sheep farming.

This is good news!

Peta gets bennetton to stop using australian (museling) wool and they will now use a more humane type.

now what people have to do is not buy this new wool !

Ah, no offense to any Aussies on the list, but how stupid can ya get? Have they never heard of tagging? ALL sheep have a "problem" and you simply clip the wool away from their hineys. We do this to all the rescues during late summer, early fall when their wool is growing out again. Or is it too much effort to do this on a yearly basis?

Hi Lynda

I reckon laziness is the problem - why do it every year when you need only do it once - it's not the farmer's bums that are causing agony!
