I know that Arthur St Clair was born in Scotland, and I had a feeling Cyrus Griffin was born in England. BB peter
Guest guest
Of the first 12 presidents (that would be through 1850), 7 were born in Virginia, 2 were born in Massachusetts, 1 in New York, 1 in North Carolina and 1 in South Carolina. I know... I find it a little baffling that the " first " president was actually something like the tenth!!!! > cyrus was born in virginia OK. Unfortunately I need to re-load my presidential family tree before I can look up these things (recent re-jigging of computer), so I'm working from memory... I'm pretty sure one of them was born in England.
Guest guest
like i said...that was back in the days of the continental congress and the articles of confederation before the US Constituition, in which article II sez u have to be a natural born citizen of these here states... i'm sure there were a few of the earlier folks born overseas... we just don't consider them presidents here tho...we consider Washington the first president Peter <metalscarab Oct 17, 2005 3:11 PM Re: Reagan WAS Re: Hi Fraggle > those 10 er so " presidents " before the ratification generally are supposed to have not counted.. > we count from washington onward....
