Guest guest
Major new study says severe weather is likely on the way Winter as we know it in the northeast U.S. will vanish. Summers across the country will be hotter, particularly in the parched Southwest. Rain will be less frequent but more torrential when it happens. Loss of property will be " catastrophic, " exotic diseases will spread, species will die off. Skippee doo! These apocalyptic scenarios are predicted for the end of the century by a major new study from researchers at Purdue University. The study, which assumes that carbon dioxide emissions will roughly double over the next 100 years, lines up with a similar study from the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado. Said Purdue climate scientist Noah S. Diffenbaugh, " I would be thrilled to be wrong. " You aren't the only one, dude. straight to the source: The Washington Post, Juliet Eilperin, 18 Oct 2005 straight to the source: National Geographic, Willie Drye, 17 Oct 2005 I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can still do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. Guest guest
We've looked in Canada. There's some nice property up there. I don't know that one can get folks to change. Just too many arguments about why they can't change and no attempts to change. We've made lots of changes and will continue to make more changes. I figure if I can get a city boy (Boston is about as city as you can get) into the country (we're about as country as you can get!), there is hope for everyone <g> People just need to wake up and make the decision. Guest guest
We don't have as many frosts as we used to. Up until about ten years ago we had our first frost in the first week of September and our last frost could be the first week of June - we are on a north facing slope. It made our flowering season very short. Now we have maybe a dozen frosts a year, and they don't start until about November. Guest guest
The area Fraggle lives in used to be WET, DAMP and FOGGY in the winter and a good part of the rest of the year. It has changed greatly over the years. When I was a small tike there were times when you simply did NOT drive because the fogs were killer! Roads were closed because folks would drive off the roads and into the rivers and bay! Fairfield-Suisun was terrible. The area by the race track was deadly with multi-car pile ups. Because of the heat inland during the summer, the coast was one big fog bank during the summer. Up the coast, in what is known as " Wine Country, " when I was a teenager, we still had killer fogs but they don't anymore. You used to have snow up in Humboldt County, right on the coast, right down to the surf, enough to build snowmen and get out the sleds and snow suits about once every 9 or 10 years. Haven't had one in about 20 years now, though we did have a real nasty freeze about 10 years ago. The weather up and down the coast of CA has really changed! Guest guest
O.K., but can you get Canada to move a whole bunch of people out of the Bay Area so that there is something besides cement and wall to wall ugly buildings. Yeah know, some real trees, fields, places to grow veggies, water that isn't polluted??? Oh, and ship out the politicians!
