Guest guest
Try Worthington Fri-Chik. You can grind it up in a food processor and it turns out great. That is what I do when I make my " Chicken " Salad out of it. It has a wonderful taste. Judy - turtlebsnosu Friday, August 24, 2007 10:18 AM [sPAM] How do I make meatballs? Guest guest
Hi Chanda, I have been wanting to learn more about quorn. Since I dont do soy, I have very limited meat substitutes and my hubby is a carnovore. Tell me more about it, please, if you have eaten it. How does it cook into things? Does it cook easily. Can you eat it be itself or do you have to depend on heavy flavored sauces to cover the taste of it. Guest guest
3 options come to mind right away (to substitute for the chicken that is: Yves ground round Ground up thawed and squeezed previously frozen tofu (firm) Ground up seitan (also known as gluten or wheat meat) When I make meatballs (not meat balls, not sure what to call them) I add ground up nuts of some kind or another, usually ground up walnuts are great, but then I would omit the cheese too....you might not need it for texture and richness. , " turtlebsnosu " <turtlebsnosu wrote: > > I am a lacto-ovo veggie head. Guest guest
I was poking around on the internet for some alternative name that already existed but have not yet found it. vegetarian meatballs? Walnut balls? Tofu balls? Seitan balls? TVP balls? Savory flavor balls? Nomeatballs? Round clumps of stuff? Maybe there should be a contest to come up with a new name for meatballs. Hm, this site calls them Neatballs. http://www.fitnessandfreebies.com/veg/neatballs.html Which makes me think of veatballs. Gary Obviously these synonyms are for the wrong type of meatball: dope, booby, Inf. dummy, dumbbell, meathead; blockhead, goon, klutz, lug, palooka, schlep, schlub. . Ooh, and I hadn't even thought of going here: baby; beef-burger; client; cull; john; meal-ticket; meatball; money-trick; patron; piper; punter; sucker; Amazing what internet searches can come up with. --- cabrita_trl <roseta_lleo wrote: > 3 options come to mind right away (to substitute for > the chicken that > is: > > Yves ground round > Ground up thawed and squeezed previously frozen tofu > (firm) > Ground up seitan (also known as gluten or wheat > meat) > > When I make meatballs (not meat balls, not sure what > to call them) I > add ground up nuts of some kind or another, usually > ground up walnuts > are great, but then I would omit the cheese > too....you might not need > it for texture and richness. > > , > " turtlebsnosu " > <turtlebsnosu wrote: > > > > I am a lacto-ovo veggie head. Guest guest
If you take a poll, I vote for Round Clumps of Stuff. I think it sounds delightful on bed of overcoked brown rice. LOL. Katie
Guest guest
I often use these for meatballs. I drain off the gravy that comes in the can with them and freeze it to make gravy with. Then I add the Tender Rounds to Spaghetti Sauce. http://www.amazon.com/Loma-Linda-Tender-Rounds-19-Ounce/dp/B000AYFAKG I also do it this way to make an Italian " Meatball " sandwich. I simmer the drained Tender Rounds in Marinara Sauce or bake them, covered. I usually add some extra garlic, oregano and basil to the sauce. Then I split open Whole Wheat Sub rolls. Spoon on the Sauce and Tender rounds, sprinkle with Mozzarella Cheese, cover with the other half of the sub roll. It is delicious!!!!! Guest guest
Is Quorn vegan? does it have both vegan and vegetarian options. I too have been looking into meatless options, will look for it in my local store. Thanks, Ann
Guest guest
If memory serves me correctly, it is vegetarian, not vegan. I think it has egg or somesuch in it. From wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quorn " As it uses egg white as a binder, it is not suitable for vegans. Guest guest
I checked and supposedly there is someplace to get it in Anchorage. That store is on the other side of the city, and notoriously expensive, but I will give it a try. Just for refference purposes, how much do you ususally pay for the Quorn Roast? Katie " Puterwitch " <puterwitch wrote: I LOVE Quorn! Quorn is actually a mushroom like fungus, but get that out of your head, it is great. it tastes exactly like turkey. I cook the roast according to package directions, eat some of it with mushroom gravy, and then I use the rest in recipes. I LOVE " chik'n salad " made with Quorn. I use vegenaise and a little garlic powder and some onion and celery and yumz! I use it in quesadillas and other foods that call for shopped chicken or turkey. I can't tell you enough how good it is. hugs, Chanda
Guest guest
Katie, how about " brown ground round clumps of stuff " ? sounds yummy.... I must be the only person here that does not care for Quorn? must be that is tastes too much like poultry. Even before I was veggie, I never cared for chicken or turkey (or duck). My mom forced me to eat it which made me dislike it even more. I love all mushrooms though. , Katie M <cozycate wrote: > > If you take a poll, I vote for Round Clumps of Stuff.
