Guest guest
After reading about Quorn on this site- I started looking a little closer at it. It is not a mushroom, although it is a fungus- it is a fusarium mold grown in vats. The term " mycoprotein " is a term invented by the company that manufactures the mold/food. I was excited when I first began looking at it. But having worked with plants all my life, I can assure there are many fusarium molds which aren't our friends. I urge you all to look into the product fully before you use it. I am including a link to a public interest site about the product. There are also several links off of that site. I am not trying to be a kill joy, but some people are allergic to certain molds. This product is a mold. Guest guest
I worked next door to a company that made sauerkraut and pickles, I don't even want to tell you what I saw out of my office window. Quorn doesn't scare me in the least. Donna --- Andrew Werling <awerling wrote: > Hmmm. > > Okay, mold grown in vats. Guest guest
because of people being scared like this, the product is the most tested food in the world, as each county that takes it on tests it vigorously. It is easy to say, " mold grown in vats " and have it sound gross, but think about the way I make my yogurt, waste matter of bacteria ... yum! cheese is mold .... Eggs are ... well ... you get my point, LOL. The stuff is good, and has nutrients, and no meat. I rather eat Quorn any day than the soy faux stuff, or the real stuff of course. read here about Quorn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quorn hugs, Chanda - Andrew Werling Friday, August 24, 2007 5:05 PM Re: Quorn-Soylent Green? Guest guest
Sorry guys for seeming like old Scrooge. I realize that many of you are real fans of Quorn. I had read that the FDA did not perform any tests on it, they relied on the Marlow Company's tests in the U.K. Actually only one in 146,000 people will have a reaction to it. And that is a smaller rate than for soy products. I'm probably just over reacting to all the bad press that imported goods are creating in the news these days. FDA does not test as much as you might think they do. Guest guest
Elizabeth All molds and mushrooms are fungi. All fungi are not mushrooms and mold. Fungi are a separate classification. Plants and animal are 2 others. Some people have trouble with agaricus (storebought mushrooms). Have you tried shittake, puffballs, oyster or other types? Some of these mushrooms have anti cancer and immune system enhancing properties.
