Guest guest
hope it wasn't crystal, but if it was expensive I bet you could have died, they can be such a treasure. Hopefully it wasn't an heirloom! At least my pot breaking wasn't a big deal, just the cheese burned onto the burner. linda " Whatever you do will be insignificant and it is very important that you do it. I poured in the boiling water and tea bags and that was fine until I placed the ice inside. It made a bomb sound and cracked up and down the sides. Guest guest
When I was first married I went to grab something off a shelf in one of the cabinets and the shelf above collapsed and all the dishes on the shelf fell off hit me in the head and broke on the floor. I looked like a one of those cartoons. All my husband could do was stand in the doorway and laugh. I know not a cooking disaster but still a disaster. Guest guest
I always say I would love to print a book of my kitchen disasters. I could keep the group laughing for days. I always remember one of them now and then when a member writes me off list to tell me about all my kitchen and recipe knowledge. If all of you only knew about my trial and errors, it would certainly let you know that you just get right back in the kitchen and trt try again. Never feel you have failed if your dish doesn't turn out. Donna Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile

Guest guest
Donna, I have a LOT of disasters. I try one recipe or another and then throw them away. LOL My latest disaster is black bean burgers. They just tasted like so much mush! As have all my burgers, except Portabella burgers Oh, well. Another day. Another disaster. Tonight, I have Morningstar Lentil and Rice loaf. No failure there. Guest guest
Dear Sue: I have also had disasters with my " bean burgers " but I don't give up. When they come out bad, I cut them into pieces and I place them in the fridge for " dog treats " . Isn't that what pets are for? To love us and eat our disasters? I have found that my bean burgers come out like mush when I put everything thru the sausage grinder or put everything into to the food processor. So, what I have found works for me is to half-way mash the beans with a fork so there is still some big pieces and to dice (small dice but not finely dice? does that make sense?) all the other ingrediants. Then dump everything into the large bowl and stir to mix. Do not mash or over mix cause then it turns out like refried beans. I find the burgers turn out so good when they have a " little chunky " texture, and you can taste the different ingedients in the burgers. Cheers, David Re: Kitchen disasters Posted by: " Sue " kup sruger36 Fri Aug 31, 2007 2:26 pm (PST) Donna, I have a LOT of disasters. I try one recipe or another and then throw them away. Guest guest
Aha! I looked carefully at all the comments on Allrecipes. And several people put the ingredients in their food processor. So that's what I did! Sounded so easy. And tasted so bad. And I love black beans. Thanks for the heads up. I will try the recipe again. I added lots of onions to the mixture, so I couldn't give them to the dogs. Guest guest
No, you want to lightly mash with a fork. You pureed the mix no wonder it was a mess. You would have to add a bunch of breadcrumbs and it would alter the flavor but might have bulked it up. Watch, the next batch you make will be perfect. That's how we learn. I still can't roll grape leaves like you are supposed to. Donna --- Sue <kup wrote: > Aha! I looked carefully at all the comments on > Allrecipes. Guest guest
Oh,I hear ya on forgetting things in the oven-and then pre-heating the oven.I start my bean sprouts in the (Cold)oven, and then after a couple of days, when they are well sprouted I set them out in the sun for a few hours to finish them off. There have been a few times I have pre-heated the oven to cook something only to discover some very crispy critters in my oven.I do use a Pyrex baking dish to grow my sprouts in,and so far it has not shattered-must be that salt I toss over my shoulder for luck! Guest guest
Donna, I bet that hurt!!! It reminds me of a scene in " Mrs. Doubtfire " . Didn't Robin Williams have the same thing happen when he was in his " matronly woman " costume and quipped, " I've only been a woman for ___minutes and I'm already having hot flashes! " ? LOL!! --Laura B., in Illinois (I've had a few embarassing kitchen blunders, too!) Oh by the way I was not laughing at the time it happened. This is funny now but not at the time, years ago I reached across the flaming burner and burned my left breast, I had to smash the pan lid on the burning T-shirt to get the fire stopped,
Guest guest
Laura it was a Mrs Doubtfire experience lol Weird thing is, I use very sharp knives and never cut myself. I peel garlic with a butcher knife. Donna Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
