Guest guest
Hi! I have an aunt and uncle in Spring, so I bet they're not far at all from you! Try some of the meat alternatives. I make those things a lot and my not-quite-veg husband loves it all. Ones we like are Morningstar Farms Chik'n and Steak strips (great for fajitas and burritos), MSF or Boca crumbles (use them in place of ground meat- I made lasagna with it and the in-laws never knew!), Boca Italian sausages, MSF sausage patties (great smashed up and mixed in with gravy on biscuits), Gradenburger portabella and vegan patties, or pretty much any similar ones (I make some really awesome sandwiches with toasted bread portabella patties, a slice of cheese, raw spinach (which I won't use till this e.coli bit isn't an issue!), tomatoes, shredded carrots, onions, fresh mushrooms, alfalfa sprouts, and Dorothy Lynch salad dressing, which, lucky you, you'll have there in Texas)... Check out all the stuff in the frozen section of the store, and in produce they'll have the " smart whatever " stuff, I've gotten a thing recently for their bologna with crackers. Have fun with it. I think it's Dr. Phil said that restrictive diets don't work. Ones that satisfy and aren't restrictive do. Try not to think of what you can't eat, but what you can. You *can* eat lots of tasty, good-for-you foods! Pretty much anything you could have a craving for, there's something out there. Have fun with it. It's a good thing!! Guest guest
Hi Jeana! Welcome to the group. I do have a suggestion, although it won't be pleasant. Go to http://www.petatv.com/veg.html and watch Meet Your Meat. When I went vegan and would think about how I'd like to eat a cheese pizza, I would just think of parts of this video, and any desire was gone. I told my hubby if he watched the video, HE (not we) could decide whether or not to get cloth or leather seats in our new car. He watched it, and we got cloth. Good luck! Guest guest
Jeana, Being new to even the IDEA of being a vegetarian, I'm kind of taking things on a meal by meal basis, as well as adding a new food to my menu at least once a week. I think that it's not something you can do cold turkey, especially if you've grown up on meat. For example, yesterday, I managed to avoid all meat, but today, at a BBQ, I had chicken, since my options were limited, and I was not ready to have any kind of public conversation on the issue. Just one meal at a time, and save eating meat for when it means the most. (ie, a perfect steak). Then, just eat less than you really would, and don't feel guilty about it!!! It doesn't have to be overnite:)
