Guest guest
> Where are you from......? Suffern, NY - about 20 miles north of NYC and walking distance from New Jersey. > what are your favorite places to shop for groceries and health foods, > and > other healthy products for your body. ETC.? Kalustyan's, NYC - great for middle-eastern and far-eastern products. Lots of varieties of dried beans, rice, nuts, and spices. Someone once described Kalustyan's as F.A.O Schwarz for foodies! Foodmart International, Spring Valley, NY - specializes in Chinese, Vietnamese, Jamaican, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, and other South American items. Really cheap produce. Lots of Asian greens. Plenty of unfamiliar items to inspire the culinary imagination. Ramsey Market, Ramsey, NJ - produce and cheap tofu. Trader Joe's, Paramus, NJ - trail mix, nuts, snack foods. Pathmark, Ramsey, NJ - the usual grocery store stuff. Suffern Farmer's Market - whatever's in season. My terrace - tomatoes, hot peppers, and herbs. I get most of my healthy body products (e.g., supplements) online: I Google what I want, then find the place with the best dal and go for it. Guest guest
> > Where are you from......? Phx, Az > > what are your favorite places to shop for groceries and health foods, > > and > > other healthy products for your body. ETC.? I seek them out anywhere. I cook from scratch most of the time so any place that has fresh or frozen veggies, fruits, grains and beans and pasta I can make most anything up. I do order online too. I find spices on the Net. > I depend on the groups recipes for many meals. I like knowing the recipes are tried and true. Often I have bad results when using a cookbook. It's always fun to see what recipes the members are going to post next. Mari
Guest guest
Where are you from......? Eureka CA, in the heart of the Redwoods, Sequoia Sempervirens what are your favorite places to shop for groceries and health foods, and other healthy products for your body. ETC.? I mostly shop @ either Eureka or Arcata Cooperative. They have a great selection of vegetarian and organic foods. They have a huge selection of bulk dried beans, rice, nuts, spices, medicinal herbs. They have a lot of body products in bulk--yesterday I purchased hand and body lotion made almost locally [santa Rosa CA] and put it in my own container. I carry my own shopping bags [i have three] and I save smaller paper bags and reuse them for dry beans, rice, etc. I also save plastic bags and reuse them for produce. The Coop gives me money off for using or reusing bags. I have been a member of the Coop since 1976. They also have a great deli--right now we are moving and my kitchen is closed down. We are able to eat healthy foods for reasonable prices. I purchase medicinal herbs that I cannot buy @ the Coop at two separate local independent herb stores in Eureka and Arcata. Occasionally, I shop @ the Farmer's Market when I have time. The prices are a little cheaper. Kathleen
Guest guest
Boston, MA area. My main market is my nearest Shaws, supplemented by other surrounding supermarkets when mine doesn't have what we want, plus occasional forays to Wild Oats, Trader Joe, the farmers' market in my town when it is open, and maybe Whole Foods every couple of months for vitamins plus whatever else grabs me while I'm in there. If I want something special in the produce line, I go to a produce market that is not far from my daughter's house - if they don't have it, and at a pretty good price, I probably can't get it locally. That only happens a couple of times a year, though, because it is probably 45 minutes from my house and not worth a special trip for me most of the time. My daughter often goes to a produce stand that is halfway between our houses; I should check it out some time. I grow basil and parsley and a little lettuce and dandelion in the backyard in season, but most of that seems to find its way to the guinea pig plate and I never see it again - spoiled furbaby! :-) -ginger

Guest guest
Upper East, TN area. I shop at all the regional stores here depending on the sales: Ingles, Whites, Kroger, Food City, Wal-Mart. I also shop the local salvage grocer every month. I grow a small herb garden: rosemary, parsley, leeks, sage, oregano and some sweet banana peppers. We grew catnip once for our indoor cats but the neighborhood cats raided it until it died -- through a double netting fence! Grrr. We have a Sams Club in the area, but I've never been there. Never have the time or energy. Jeanne
Guest guest
I'm from the Boston, MA area (Arlington) but I'm currently living in syracuse, NY. This time of year, I mostly shop at the local farmer's markets (one is year-round but mostly whole-salers in the winter), then Wegmans mostly, and occasionally Price Chopper and P & C. I also occasionally shop at the co-op but they don't carry most of our staples. When I was in MA, I lived right near a Trader Joes and I miss it so much! Also, the Harvest Co-ops in MA are amazing. But luckily I'm back there a lot so I can stock up while I'm visiting. ~Rachael
