Guest guest
Many years ago my office was right next door to a sauerkraut and pickle factory does it ever stink. I mean my window was a few feet from the barrels.LOL I better go read the astrology section of todays paper. The blackberry tower is down in my area so no emails thete, Ebay had someone try and tap into my account so I can't get into it right now, AOL had something happen and I had to change my password which was not easy because it would say new passwordd all set and then it didn't work when I tried to log in so I changed it 9 times. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Good thing is works and you are all here. Happy Saturday! Off to eat my powerful bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar, sliced banana, and hemp nut seeds all over the top! Guest guest
Sounds like a great breakfast, Donna. My girlfriend from years ago when I was in high school in the very early 60s, had a mother who worked for a man who shipped barrels of olives to packing companies. The owner would let us go down and get an olive from the barrel. Of course they were packed in brine!! They were the size of a large peach. We each got one and were in our glory for an hour with the salty brine and the giant olive with the pit in the center. Green olives, of course. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your connectivity problems! I doubt the sauerkraut and pickle factory smell is worse than the smell coming off large pig " factories " . I used to live in Iowa and when driving out in the country I would occasionally pass one of these farms. I was miles away so I really wonder what it smelled like up close and personal. I'm certain the pigs wouldn't appreciate why they were there, if they knew, but I'm sure just attempting to live there was no fun at all. Sorry, got off on a tangent. And then I envision this huge tower made up of blackberry vines and climbing and climbing and climbing up to the very top to get that one special bunch of blackberries. That would be a very interesting eco-friendly tower eh? A communication tower made of blackberry vines. Hm, possibly not very feasible. Oh well. Have fun with your oatmeal! I had some kashi. And now I'm having coffee. Gary P.S. coffee, which reminds me of Ed Sanders' " The Illiad " " Then I went over to Mays' Cafe for some coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee " which then led my brain to " Jimmy Joe the Hippybilly Boy " . Oh why oh why have they not reissued all of Ed Sanders' albums on CD? --- Donnalilacflower <thelilacflower wrote: > Many years ago my office was right next door to a > sauerkraut and pickle factory does it ever stink. Guest guest
Another really bad smell, is when some of the farmers put " fertilizer " from a chicken plant. I've been told they are actually chicken parts....... Horrible horrible smell in the air for miles around. Can you imagine living in the country and wanting to open your windows and let the fresh air in, only to discover that one of the farmers in the area has spread this stuff out. There are only a couple of farmers here that use them and fortunately they aren't close by, so we don't experience when we open our windows, but it is in an area that we have to drive thru to get to certain places we need to go...... But I do think that pig farms and a sourkraut factory might even be worse. All rather repulsive though. Sorry you are having problems Donna. Skip that astrology stuff and just enjoy your day. I'm having some oatmeal too. I decided to toast the oatmeal before cooking it, like someone else suggested. It is delicious. I have golden raisens, maple syrup, peanut butter, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds and green pumpkin seeds sprinkled over mine. Yummmmmm. Got a cup of Green tea with mandrin orange flavoring. Guest guest
I lived in Germany 30 years ago and can verify that curing sauerkraut stinks. People in appartments make it and within a year even a new building will permanently stink of it. I guess they get used to it, but I wouldn't go into a German apartment building. I guess it you do it in a sealed crock it wouldn't smell so strong. I don't know. I have never been a fan of sauercraut. That probably has to do with the fact that when I was just 2 my little brother was born and for the 5 days my mother was in the hospital, my dad took care of me and he fed me canned sauerkraut and hot dogs for every meal, cause it was fast and easy. Guest guest
I made sauerkraut last year. I used a recipe that called for putting a large ziplock baggie filled with saltwater on top of a plate that was on top of the cabbage. It keeps out pathogens and bad smells. I found it on the net. I can't find the recipe. It was by Ma something. GB , Katie M <cozycate wrote: > > I lived in Germany 30 years ago and can verify that curing sauerkraut stinks. Guest guest
Hi Gary and everyone. I grew up in Hungary, often saurkraut was the only source of vitamin C and was kept in the cold larder. Made the traditinal way did not seem to smell too bad. Enjoying some oatmeal myself today, good to try it in new and tantalising ways. I don't have any hemp seed unfortunatly. I might try to find some of the music you have mentioned, working on expanding my taste, after many years of oppression.
