Anything made that passed the grading test (very complicated method, family thumbs up or thumbs down. Horizontal thumb= thumbs down) makes it to a page protector. Need to be tried is stuffed in the front and I try to make something once per week from that part. Since it is so overstuffed and scatters everywhere, things from this group I save electronically until I try them. Periodically I go through the lose ones and throw away the ones that make me think 'what the heck was I thinking when I tore THIS out of the magazine? I'll never make this!' Someday I'll put the whole thing in Mastercook, send it to a publisher who will publish it to rave reviews, I'll make a famous cooking show out of it, buy the pizelle iron I covet, and retire. Guest guest
Hi everyone, this is my first post to this group. So far I've really enjoyed everyone's recipes....thank you. My question today is of a practical nature -- what method do you use to organize your recipes, especially the ones from this group? Do you do this - electronically? Do you have a software recommendation (especially if it is free ware)? - on recipe cards? - in binders? - or some other brilliant method I'm very interested... Guest guest
I have a filing cabinet right next to my computer desk. I print off a recipe and pop it into a folder. If, for example, I have a recipe that can be cooked two or more ways....say....breakfast and/or tofu....I print off two. Sometimes I lose recipes, but mostly it works for me. I tried recipe cards and binders, but found I was having just to many recipes. Also, once upon a time, I stored them on my computer, but then I lost them when my computer crashed. Guest guest
I forward recipies I want to keep to another, no limit, mail box and keep them there until I make them. When I want to make the recipe I print it and after I make it if I don't like it, I toss it. If I do, I punch holes and put it in a looseleaf notebook under catagories. Guest guest
Hi Tonya, I use a three ring black binder and print off recipes to put in sheet protectors. I like that the pages stay open and that it's easy to look through them. The plastic covering of the protectors work good for wiping off food splatters and for writing down changes to the recipes with an erasable marker. Guest guest
What a great idea to find out how everyone saves recipes! I use gmail for this account. I have created lots of " folders " and I file my recipes in them. I have broken down some of the recipes to ingredients...like if a recipe calls for a lot of tomatoes, I will file that under " Tomatoes " or if it calls for a lot of spinach, file it under " Spinach " . Or " Tofu " . This way if something is on sale at the stores, I can easily find recipes to use them. When I go to use a recipe, I print it out and then keep it in my kitchen recipe drawer.with whatever notes I've made. Ideally, I will go back to the original on the computer and make notes on that, too. Katie, I love your idea of putting them in notebooks with plastic protectors! I may have to do that! Will very much enjoy reading other's methods.
