Oh man, don't ask me how I organize them but I can

always find what I'm looking for. At this point in my

life I can't even organize my underwear drawer...LOL

This is a great question Tonya! Personally I could not manage without my

electronic software - I use Mastercook and Living Cookbook - I prefer LC but

use MC most because there are so many books and groups using MC format and

none that I know of using LC - so MC is just more convenient. It isn't

" freeware " but the latest version only costs $20 in the States. Well worth

the investment and it would open up so many recipe resources for you - and

you can search on ingredient, method, cuisine, anything you want to

basically, even what you have in your pantry, and it will find recipes you

can cook there and then.

I belong to a lot of mastercook recipe swapping and formatting groups and

run my own vegetarian one too (as there were no active ones out there I

thought I would do it). My only problem now is that I spend so much time

playing with my recipe collection I have little time to actually cook!!

I try not to use too much paper so I only ever print a recipe out if I am

going to try it, then if I like it I keep it in a ring binder, if I won't

use it again I chuck it.

Looking forward to reading everyone else's responses, this is a fascinating

question.

organizing recipes?

Hi everyone,

this is my first post to this group. So far I've really enjoyed everyone's

recipes....thank you. My question today is of a practical nature -- what

method do you use to organize your recipes, especially the ones from this

group?

Do you do this

- electronically? Do you have a software recommendation (especially if it is

free ware)?

- on recipe cards?

- in binders?

- or some other brilliant method

I'm very interested...

Have a great Saturday,

Tonya

what would be the point anyway?? just shove it all into a drawer & jam it shut.

nuff done. but just think....if you had no underwear, you'd have an extra

drawer for cozy jammies.

I have 6 2 inch binders and they are organized but I also have 2 or

3 disk that are ones that I have gotten over the years and gobbs in

my outlook.. Those are organized by which group they came from..

Does that count?

HAHAHAHA. Great question; I'm learning lots from others. Especially in regards

to underwear drawers. I have a milk crate where I stuff all the ones i print.

I receive posts by email, so anything that catches my eye goes into a recipes

folder to print eventually. I also have a notepad full of recipes that i

cut & pasted from who knows where. The *plan* is to get all these recipes

sorted into folders, hole punched & added to a binder according to whatever

criteria strikes my fancy at the time. I also have years of magazine tear outs

to sort. It's rather overwhelming which is why they're all crammed into a milk

crate. Much like my undies are crammed into a drawer. ROFL.

oh jeez.....I have several boxes of recipe cards, too. And 2 bookcases full

of cookbooks. I have sooooo much to eat.

For a moment there I thought you had underwear

that you printed and I was trying to get a mental

picture of printed underwear. oh, quite talented

is this group. I mean, I have a friend that dyes

scarves so surely you should be able to print

underwear. Hm, what would you print on it though?

Ah, you print recipes on your underwear. Well,

you'll never find yourself in some awkward position

where you don't know what to cook. Honey,

are you cooking tonight? You bet sweetheart.

How does this recipe look? Ooh, ( I have to

stop I'm getting into Mature Audience stuff

here). ;<)

My apologies.

I save recipes that come to me via my computer in a text file; I print

them out when I make them, and then save them (assuming they taste

good!) in a card file. Very compact.

I have a three-ring binder for the recipes I use at school.

Hi,

Thanks for mentioning livingcookbook. I

wasn't aware of that one and will take a look.

http://www.livingcookbook.com/

http://www.valusoft.com/products/mastercook.html

I had heard that Mastercook had gone downhill

over the last few years although, as you note,

there are still great quantities of recipes

out there in that format.

I wonder if any of them have considered reading

outputs from OCR (optical character recognition)

software and organizing it properly. That would

be ever so helpful in getting things from print

into recipe software. Admittedly there may not

be a consistent format in books/magazines/newspapers

which such software could deal with.
