Guest guest
I use accuchef that you can download at cnet for free. You have 30 days to try it and if you keep it it is $20.00. I like it because I can print off a recipe book. Lesa
Guest guest
I have a bunch of notebooks, with page protectors. Each notebook is a category, for example, Grains, Breakfast, Desserts.... Use whatever categories you like. My husband even cut out pictures of food from magazines after I took out the recipes I wanted, and made collages to go with each category, so they look pretty cool. My digital recipes are completely unorganized though; just a folder with a gazillion text files. It's a someday project.
Guest guest
i haven't printed out recipes yet. Usually i just bring the recipe up on the computer screen and follow it from there; often i have to run back and forth between my cooking space & the computer, but i just chalk this up as good excersize. *lol* Sometimes i am lucky enough to have a kids sitting infront of my imac, then i just yell over to them, " Okay, what do i do now? " As far as how i organize recipes on my computer, i just created document folders for each category: snacks & appetizers, soups, stews, main dish, etc.... much like our folders in our group files are organized. When i see a recipe on another group that i want to highlight to try for myself soon, i stick it into a sub-folder in the proper category that is titled " to try soon " ; i have TTS sub- folders in each folder pretty much. So many recipes to try and so little time! ~ pt ~ We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want. ~ Tao Te Ching ~~~*~~~*~~~> , subprong <subprong wrote: > > Hi all. Guest guest
I copy and paste the recipe only and email to my self in another email account. () There I have separate files for everything and I just drag them to the folder they belong in. I save recipes that come to me via my computer in a text file; I print them out when I make them, and then save them (assuming they taste good!) in a card file. Very compact. I have a three-ring binder for the recipes I use at school. Alex

Guest guest
Hi Gary, the company that look after MC do seem to have abandoned it in favour of games so it is pretty stagnant, whereas LC is still growing. A huge amount of the people on my formatting lists use OCR software to get their recipes into MC, I don't have a good enough scanner but am a very fast typist so I do it the old fashioned way most of the time. You still need to fiddle with it to get it into the correct format and then import but I guess it is quicker than typing it all out. Let me know what you think of LC, I much prefer the whole look and feel of it, plus the support is great, but sadly MC is reams ahead in terms of share of the market - but if Valusoft do nothing more with it, then maybe LC can jump ahead, who knows. Carolyn _____ On Behalf Of Gary Mattingly 09 September 2007 17:54 RE: organizing recipes? Hi, Thanks for mentioning livingcookbook. I wasn't aware of that one and will take a look. http://www.livingco <http://www.livingcookbook.com/> okbook.com/ http://www.valusoft <http://www.valusoft.com/products/mastercook.html> ..com/products/mastercook.html I had heard that Mastercook had gone downhill over the last few years although, as you note, there are still great quantities of recipes out there in that format. I wonder if any of them have considered reading outputs from OCR (optical character recognition) software and organizing it properly. That would be ever so helpful in getting things from print into recipe software. Admittedly there may not be a consistent format in books/magazines/newspapers which such software could deal with. Guest guest
If something looks good, either from the files in this group of somewhere else on the internet, I email it to myself. Usually it is a large document, for several version on how to prepare 'something'. 'Something' could be growing on our garden or be surplus from my partner's job. Usually lots of different recipes help to cook a lot of one thing.... So if I make it and like it I leave it on my desktop (computer) for a while. If it becomes a favorite, it goes into a large document where I have been collecting my favorite recipes. That one only gets updated once a year or so, but i keep in in various computers, so a crash would not destroy it.
