Kamut Basic Cooking Instructions

Recipe By :page 86

Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:00

Categories : Kamut

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

1 cup Kamut groats

1 cup water; juice; or broth

salt to taste

Like wheat and spelt, Kamut groats are very hard. They will cook faster if

presoaked.

Plastic Steamers: Add 1 cup of water to rice bowl along with grain. Let soak

overnight or during the day. When ready to cook, fill water reservoir to the

maximum, drain Kamut, and add back 1 cup of water or other cooking liquid.

Steam until groats are soft and chewy, 50 to 60 minutes. If you have not

soaked the grain, your cooking time will be closer to 90 minutes.

Metal Steamers: Coat rice bowl with nonstick spray. Add water and groats to

rice bowl and let soak overnight or during the day. When ready to cook, add

an additional 1 cup of water and turn machine on. Let grain steam for 10

additional minutes after it has turned off. If you have not soaked them,

your cooking time will be closer to 90 minutes.
