Actually, Orange Juice On a somewhat related note, I was shocked to discover yesterday that my Tropicana 100% Orange Juice with Omega-3 is not vegetarian. The ingredients list MEG-3 (fish oil and fish gelatin), and it also says " contains tilapia, sardine and anchovy. " Maybe I was naive to think orange juice should be just that, but my daughter and I were totally grossed out. I will read the labels of everything I buy much more carefully from now on. Guest guest
What I find particularly disturbing about this, is that they can get away with calling it 100% orange juice when it patently cannot be 100% orange juice if it also contains fish. I do not believe that they could get away with that labelling in the UK but I shall be checking it out the next time I am in the supermarket. On a related note longer term members will recall that I contacted CocaCola to ask if their products were suitable for vegetarians and they provided me with a list of their drinks that contained fish products, comprising in particular those with a yellow or orange colour. That certainly was not apparent from the labelling - over here they can get away with referring to colours and flavourings by E numbers and unless you carry with you a comprehensive list of these and a magnifying glass at all times, going shopping can be a nightmare. For this reason I only buy items that are actually labelled as being suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Guest guest
Wow! That's interesting information. I'll try and remember to look for it at my work Sunday morning. We carry Odewalla and Minute Maid brands of bottled orange, apple, and cranberry/grape/apple juices and use them along with Ocean Spray brand orange and grapefruit juices for smoothies and cocktails. I agree we should look carefully for everything when it comes to ingredients at stores and restaurants. Thanks again! Guest guest
It is these types of things that really shock you and make our choices more difficult! I bought OJ today and never thought to look @ the fine print. 100% OJ should be just that - except I do not buy the fortified ones. I think the flavor changes and I guess I know why now. I'm off to check my OJ.....! Prefer fresh squeezed but sometimes you just have to have a few conveniences. Valerie in FL

Guest guest
I wish we had some of your labeling requirements over here Christie. Over here they seem determined to tell us less and less about what's in our food and I find that disturbing and frustrating. But then I figure it's rather good in a reverse kind of way -- if they don't want to tell me what's in it, I probably don't want to eat it Peace, Diane , " christie_0131 " <christie0131 wrote: > > What I find particularly disturbing about this, is that they can get > away with calling it 100% orange juice when it patently cannot be 100% > orange juice if it also contains fish.
